Year in Review

The first year of college was everything I expected and also a complete blindside. I came in with high expectations and a lot of motivation to try new things and meet new people, which definitely weren’t hard to come by. I tried out a few different organizations and clubs while taking difficult classes that kept me busy, but with enough time to still enjoy myself. Diving into my coursework was a great experience and Fisher College of Business, and I know that it will become a much larger part of my academic career as I continue on through the years. There were many tough times when I felt out of place so far from home, especially during first semester. After a much needed and relaxing break, I came into second semester with a stronger drive to make Ohio State the place I wanted it to be from the beginning, and I never looked back.

While classes were enjoyable and allowed me to meet many people, my favorite memories were made outside my academic focus. Ohio State is a place where I’m able to explore many sides of my personality and various interests. My favorite course has been History of Rock ‘n Roll, which allowed me to dive deeper into my favorite music and artists and started me on the path to pursue a minor in Music, Media, and Enterprise. The strong community feeling that surrounds the places like The Oval, The Union, and the various recreation facilities helped me feel more of a connection to the university as time went on, and without that I would have had a very different year.

The highlight of this year was definitely all of the home football games. Sitting in the student section at this level was surreal, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. The comeback win over Penn State was something I never thought I would experience and rushing the field after is a memory I will never forget.

Our Eminence Fellows service project required a lot of focus, deliberation, and effort, but we elected to pursue two passionate ideas for the coming future. One project aims to combat infant mortality in Columbus while the other seeks to help the homeless in need of technological skills that will allow them to be competitive in the job search, and both have passionate groups behind them to drive them to success.

To close off the year, I took a skydiving course and was able to complete a solo skydive. The class was as much one of learning proper techniques and safety as it was a look at who I am. The skydive itself was a beautiful challenge and I was able to complete the jump while landing in the target area. After this I know I will take the lessons I learned in risk management and self awareness and apply them to other areas of my life where they will be useful.

This summer, my best friends and I are taking a nearly month long trip to Switzerland and Italy to visit our two good friends who came into our lives as foreign exchange students in high school. These are people I know will be an important part of my life forever, and I am excited to experience their lives as they did ours while also having a lot of fun.

Next year I am excited to begin to fully commit myself to a few student organizations while still finding time for myself and also to cheer on the Buckeyes across many athletic events. Go Bucks!

About Me

My name is Timothy Gamradt and I am a first year Eminence Fellow here at The Ohio State University, and I am originally from a small town near Duluth, Minnesota. My passions include travel and adventure, whether it be far away or just in my own backyard, playing and watching sports, music, and breaking out of my comfort zone. I am majoring in Finance and want to pursue either a minor or double specialization with International Business. Working with new people and learning their ideas are the things I am most excited to experience here, as well as cheering on the football team!

I have high goals academically and have always been known for my dedicated work ethic and open mindedness. I strive to create a good balance between work and life, something that proves to be more difficult as I get older.
