IMPRESSIONISM

New Style
The artists of the Impressionist Era took their
easels, paints and brushes outdoors to paint.  They wanted to capture the impression of what they were painting.
Because they believed that nothing stays the same due to changes in natural lighting and atmosphere, they tried to portray a snapshot approach.  The use of paint was small dabs, or spots of color that when viewed from a distance gave an impression of the scene.  Claude Monet did this very well and painted outside landscapes and scenery.  This style was not well accepted at first, but others soon followed to give the world a new view of art.
