“Studying abroad in Nantes, France was the life changing experience I needed to figure out where my passion lies: with languages! I found that I really do love French and if it wasn’t for my professors in the department pushing me to challenge myself with an experience like that I don’t know where I’d be. Additionally, I like the department so much when I came back from my study abroad in France I ended up picking up Italian classes and getting to meet even more people within FRIT. Thanks so much for a great college career!” – Chloe Goodman
“I had the opportunity to study abroad twice with the French department and these trips were absolutely amazing! I went to France and Morocco in 2018 and after traveling there, I decided to make French my major. I met so many amazing OSU students who became some of my closest friends. This past summer I also spent 5 weeks studying at Laval University with my close friend and former roommate Katherine. Both of these trips were life changing and I am so grateful to have been a part of FRIT!” – Meagan Donermeyer
“I will never forget Danielle Marx-Scouras’s excitement for the space available in the experimental classroom.” – Abigail Bova
“I owe my entire Italian language journey to the Siena Italian Studies program which allowed me to spend 4 incredible weeks in Siena learning Italian for the very first time. It was the summer after my first year at OSU, and I had never studied Italian before in my life. Those four weeks were transformational, as I met incredible friends (who I still thankfully see all the time), fell in love with the Italian language, and fell into even more love with Italian culture. These short 4 weeks led to me declaring Italian as a minor at OSU, applying for an experiencing an entire semester abroad in Milan, Italy during junior year, and finally becoming trilingual – allowing me to have full conversations with my Italian grandparents. At OSU, I will never forget how fun my Italian 5101 class was – combining Italian 1, 2, and 3 all into one semester was a hectic and intense academic experience, but it was all possible because of our incredible professor and the best class of students – thankfully I met one of my best friends during that class! Thank you FRIT for making this all possible. Now, I’m looking forward to living in Italy one day (but currently praying for its recovery!!).” – Juan Tramontin
“Study abroad in Dijon, France through the University of Burgundy. Met my best friend who also happened to be an OSU student!” – Cecilia Holt
“My favorite memory with FRIT was my semester abroad in Dijon. I was able to vastly improve my french abilities and felt truly immersed in French culture. My favorite class I took with the department was either Italian 5101 with Samanta Buffa or French 5403 Marseille with Dr. Marx Scouras. They are the best!! (but also so are all of the other professors in this department 🙂 )” – Jacob Mountain
“French department rules!” – Alexei Vallo
“My favorite part of studying Italian was getting to study abroad in Siena!” – Elizabeth Troiano
“As far as memories go, one of my favorites would have to be when I accidentally ended up in Casablanca, Morocco while I was on my way to Paris this past summer. My first flight was delayed, so I missed all of my connecting flights and ended up having to purchase a last-minute ticket to Paris via Morocco in order to make to it school orientation in time! It was an added bonus because I got to visit one more Francophone country than I had planned.” – Rosie Canter
“I had the opportunity to go to Montpellier, France, through OSU and the University of Minnesota. My French classes at OSU greatly prepared me for the time in France! It was such an incredible experience. I thoroughly enjoyed all of my French classes at OSU, and am grateful we have such a strong department!” – Erin Kafka
