Project Statement

This project explored linear perspective techniques as a guide toward creating our dream studio space. For my space, I followed an interior theme that was bright, bohemian, and nature-esque. The layout is very open-ended, with a large amount of space resting in the middle so I could theoretically move things around or even situate myself on the ground to do work if I wanted to. As for the individual objects, I wanted to include a balance of organic and mechanic shaped things. The more organic objects like the plants, rug, canvas designs, desk chair, and pillows go along with the bohemian aspect of my space whereas the mechanic objects like the desk, mini-fridge, couch, and sliding glass doors serve more of a functional purpose. Lastly, the decor and storage beneath the raised flooring hint at my personality because they include my initial, favorite number, and of course, my cat, Marley.

Reflection

As someone who has dreamed of being a designer since I was little, creating this project was very exciting and insightful for me. I’ve often thought about what my dream studio would be like and so, having to draw it for a project allowed me to gain an important understanding of linear perspective and the spacial relationship between objects within an area. I’m not naturally good at drawing so it took me many attempts full of frustration, eraser marks, smudged lines, and awkward-looking items for my studio space to be successfully completed. Regardless, I really appreciated the creative freedom and realistic application this project held so I found it very rewarding and valuable in what I learned. I’m way more confident with my drawing skills and appreciate the act of drawing in a way I didn’t before.
