Disposal/ Recycle

McDonald’s thrives to recycle at least fifty percent of their waste and they want to divert the remaining waste to Energy Recovery Facilities instead of the landfill.

This is all about the environmental impact of this commodity. McDonald’s tries to reduce the amount of material used while packaging and reduce the amount of food being wasted. They try to be more efficient in their stock control and their ordering/production systems. They have already reduced the size of their tray liners and resized their Big Mac boxes. They recycle much of the waste coming from the kitchens; used cooking oil becomes biodiesel for example. This biodiesel is then used to help fuel their delivery fleet. Using the delivery trucks to pick up waste, saves 5,000 trips/year. Reducing waste and recycling the waste that is made cause McDonald’s environmental impact to be much more positive.
