Artifact 2

When I was in high school over the summer I worked at Camp Imagine which is a camp for students with disabilities. The camp takes place at Avon Lake High School, which is in my home town. While there, I made great connections with many of the students that attended the camp. From this experience I learned that I should not take the life that I was given for granted and that it is important to help those who are less fortunate than yourself. I used what I learned from this experience to get more involved in organizations that focus on community service, like Mount Scholars.

Hello, my name is Daniel Francy and I am a first year student at The Ohio State University. I am from Avon Lake, Ohio and attended Avon Lake High School. While there, I was actively involved in multiple clubs at my school and church. It was always a dream of mine to be accepted into Ohio State and was thrilled when I finally was.

While here I will be studying business in the Fisher School of Business. I am currently undecided inside of business but plan to make my decision by the end of my first year. I am also member of the Mount Leadership Society Scholars where I will focus my time on serving others and developing leadership skills that will convert to the real world. Through this scholars program I would additionally like to meet new people and strengthen relationships with them as well as the people we are serving.

I am extremely excited for my time at Ohio State and in Mount.

G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I plan on traveling outside of the country after my sophomore year through STEP. This will give me the opportunity to see other people’s cultures and ways of life.

Original Inquiry: I am in the process of looking for an internship this summer which will allow me to gain life experience and potentially do research.

Academic Enrichment: I am currently in a service-learning class that allows me to gain experience and knowledge inside and outside the classroom. I plan on continuing that volunteering aspect of the class after I complete the class.

Service Engagement: Through the Mount Scholars program I am given opportunities to volunteer in the Columbus community. I am doing this by volunteering at a food pantry and a homework help center.

Career

During high school I had always known that when I went to college I would have to decide what I was going to major in. I thought about it while I was deciding what high school classes to take but never completely made up my mind. I never had one subject that interested me more than any other, which meant that I did not have any major in mind. This changed when I took an economics class my senior year.

As soon as I started my economics class, I was very interested in what was going on and could not wait to learn more. I was very engaged in this class and learned a lot in the semester that I took it. This pushed me to declare my major as business and then eventually be a part of the Fisher School of Business at Ohio State. I am very happy that I ended up taking this class and learned that I liked economics and business type classes.
