The University Honors & Scholars Center at The Ohio State University serves high-ability, motivated undergraduate students. While embracing diversity in both ideas and people, the Center fosters purposeful learning communities that enhance students’ academic and social experiences. The Center facilitates impactful, rigorous, and unique opportunities that further student success and involvement in our G.O.A.L.S.: Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement.
- Global Awareness: In the summer before my freshman year, I was an intern in Uganda at SIT Study Abroad, an organization that coordinates and oversees study abroad programs for different universities and organizations.
- Original Inquiry: I am currently conducting research through the department of Engineering Education. The current title of the thesis I am working on is, “A Qualitative Investigation into Student Perceptions of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion After Taking an Inclusive Leadership Course”.
- Academic Enrichment: Aside from the rigorous coursework through the Department of Computer Science and the College of Engineering, I have been taking online classes outside of OSU through Udemy. One of the courses that I have taken is a copywriting course, which has improved my script, website, and patent writing skills. I plan to take more courses outside of OSU to learn more about intellectual property as well as to gain more experience with different programming languages.
- Leadership Development: Through my internship at Cyberthentic, I have been given the opportunity to lead meetings as well as our explainer video development. I have also gained leadership experience through my internship at Cardinal Health where I worked as a project manager in the IT sector. Finally, I am currently on the E-Board for Mock Trial at OSU.
- Service Engagement: Something that I care deeply about is educational equity, as I believe that everyone should have equal educational opportunities. This directly ties to a service project that my family and I started in Bujuuko, Uganda. The project is called Bujuuko Reads, and it aims to level the playing field between children living in a small rural town and their city counterparts. This has been done by providing the children and schools the resources they need while also working with the community in order to create a successful and sustainable outcome.
