Bringing social and cultural awareness

In today’s society, a lot of things are conspiring due to lack of communication and cultural awareness of other people taught in schools and at home. For example, as a African American female, its hard for me to sometimes make friends in a new setting, especially when I am a minority in a big setting. Coming to OSU, was a big change due to my race always being the majority in school. So me making friends the first two weeks was hard. I feel like a lot of people are scared to come up to me also for the fact that I have  a resting mean mug on my face. I think I am smiling…while my friends before they were my friends told m they thought I always had an issue with them lol. I feel like classes on social, body, and speaking languages need to be in some type of seminar class. I also believe that it is needed in the workforce. A lot of mircoagressions go underway because some are ignorant to what is offensive to others, and I believe that is the number cause of unneeded police shootings and brutalities now!

Figuring out my Classes finally lol

Okay this was completely different at a community college. I thought walking into scheduling for next semester, I needed to make an appointment with my academic advisor, like we did before school started, and I have to pick out my classes with them. I come to find out that it was my responsibility to pick out and register with my classes. I first felt kind of dumb about the situation only because I was expecting the same thing I got back home, but I have to remember that I am not in a community college setting anymore, this is the real deal lol! But I learned how to navigate my way finally through buckeyelink and schedule maker to help me visualize what next semester will look like for me (and to help me know when I need to sleep lol).

Teaching one day at a time…

For me , being a teacher is something I have always dreamed about, and did unknowingly, all the time. I enjoy helping people and enriching them on things they haven’t learned before. I think this first into the honors and scholars G.O.A.L.S of leadership development. I want to be able to lead my classroom, but not control it. I want to be able to have students help me lead by having a team effort. I want to be able to take classroom experience classes and develop my skills to become the best at what I want to be

Career

Graduation in Covid!

This artifact to the left is from the day I Graduated high school. I graduated with a 4.45 GPA then graduated with an associates degree from Cuyahoga Community College, then coming into The Ohio State with a full ride and incoming 60+ credits. This moment was very important to me because I was the first person in my family to achieve all those things at once. This was also important to me because due to covid, I wasn’t able to have my college graduation in person, so for me to have my high shcool one in person, although not in the usual setting, I was able to say my speech, cry in front of my teachers and parents, and get my diploma. I am the first person in my family to receive a college education with no cost associated, which for my family was good since no loans were needed to help pursue my dream. The things I learned and went through in high school was that, everything you deserve, you will get in due time. Steering clear off of the negativity and drama and just follow your own path, is the best thing you can do for yourself. You get what you put into this world, and I have also stuck with that.
