Caitlin Foley’s Module 4 Blog Post

Hi everyone, I’m Caitlin!

Today’s topic is module 4 and I wanted to talk about the risks of multitasking.

It is so tempting to multitask while studying because let’s be honest you probably don’t want to be studying at that moment. You’d rather be watching the series you’ve been binging on Netflix or scrolling through social media, or something else. So to compromise you put the tv on and or your phone beside you and try to do both. But how much do you really retain when you do that? Speaking for myself, I can’t do this because I’m either missing the show I really want to pay all my attention to or I’m not looking at my school work at all and wasting time I need to get assignments done. Either way, it’s a lose-lose situation, and if I am being honest the time you are spending on trying to multitask you probably could have gotten your work done.

So multitasking is not a great idea. I took two pieces of advice from the slide show (specifically slide 19) from this module on how to avoid multitasking. Instead of trying to multitask, you should “plan out your study time”(Slide 19). “Figure out what assignments you want to finish and how many breaks you are thinking of taking. You should also turn off your cell phone”. They are so distracting. Having notifications go off while doing your work can be really hard to not stop your study time and get stuck on your phone. So turning it off or leaving it in a different room can help get lead to faster study time.

And that’s my blog for this week!

My resources are slides 18 and 19 from the PowerPoint.
