About Me

Natalie Fleming is a first year undergraduate Data Analytics major at The Ohio State University. In the upcoming future, she hopes to add a communications minor and aspires to enter into the sports analytics field.  Growing up in Havertown, Pennsylvania, a town right outside of Philadelphia, Natalie grew up in a close knit community where service and  involvement were important. As the oldest member of her family with five younger sisters, Natalie understands the values of a role model and leadership. Utilizing these concepts, Natalie transfers the skills taught from her community and family into the classroom and her involvement on campus.  Beginning her first year at OSU, Natalie is a member of the Big Data Analytics Association (BDAA), First Year Leadership Initiative (FYLI), and STEM EE Scholars, a program that focuses on community service, academic involvement, and leadership development. When outside the classroom, Natalie enjoys watching sports, staying active, and traveling as much as she can. If you have any questions about The Ohio State University, data analytics, sports, or life feel free to contact Natalie with questions.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Through the STEM EE scholars program I have been granted many opportunities to embrace the G.O.A.L.S. of honors and scholars. By participating in my community service program, Wonders of Our World (WOW) I have learned to understand the importance of service engagement with my surrounding community. As I have gone on many visits to elementary schools to teach students the various aspects of science, I have appreciated the change in attitude towards science these children have had. Each visit significantly impacted me as it allowed me to see how excited the students started getting to learn new things and made me feel grateful that I have been able to participate in the program. The WOW program also connects to the G.O.A.L.S as the program focuses on academic enrichment where the goal of WOW is to educate younger students on different topics in science. With this, academic excellence can help be achieved as the program helps express the elementary student’s interest in the sciences at a young age.

Career

FIRST YEAR LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE

During my first few weeks at The Ohio State University I have become a member of First Year Leadership Initiative (FYLI). As an active member of this organization I have gained a greater knowledge of the many resources and opportunities Ohio State has to offer. Also, a main goal of the club is to learn how to become a better leader throughout the first year of college. By achieving this, I have participated in many personality tests and activities that enhance many qualities that are needed to become a good leader. Another amazing aspect of this organization is that there are many opportunities to get involved with the community. In the upcoming months, I will be working with a local food bank with the many members of FYLI. Through this experience I hope to have a impact on the community and make a difference in the lives of those living in it.

WONDERS OF OUR WORLD

Throughout my first semester I have been granted the opportunity to become involved with the Wonders of Our World (WOW) program at The Ohio State University. As I have traveled to many different elementary schools, I have taught students in first through fifth grade a wide variety of topics that are involved in science. These subjects focus on engaging students in activities that include fossils, rivers, soils, and more. During these visits, I have learned the importance of patience with the elementary students as they develop their hypotheses and wish to become as involved as possible with each experiment. This organization has also advanced my leadership skills as I have my own group during each activity in which I get every child involved the same amount and lead the students to work together rather than independently on each experiment. WOW has shown me the importance science has on younger students as they become fascinated by the experiments we perform at each visit. I hope my participation in this organization allows students to realize how they can incorporate science into their lives and become more interested in it as they grow older.
