Global Awareness

Growing up in a suburb outside of Cincinnati, I had never experienced that many cultures different from my own. I have always tried my best to learn about others around the world and how they differ but also relate to me. I was very excited when I got accepted to Ohio State because I knew that I was about to meet so many new people and experience new cultures. During my time here at Ohio State, I plan on going on study abroad trips to places that I would never normally visit. I have never been out of the country before and I am excited to experience that for the first time through Ohio State. I have already met so many new and amazing people here, whether they be a different race, religion, or background. I plan on taking courses that will show me different perspectives on the world and widen my views. In my spanish class, in each unit, we talk about a specific country and dive into its culture and practices which has helped show me more of the world.

Yearbook Editor

In my junior year of high school, I was selected by my yearbook advisor to be the next year’s yearbook editor along with my friend Alex. I first started yearbook my sophomore year and it quickly became one of my favorite classes so it was a dream come true when I got picked to be one of the editors. Beginning junior year, Alex and I had a big task ahead of us. We began brainstorming theme ideas and talking about what we wanted to include. When senior year started we put our plans into action by first getting to know our new yearbook staff. We had a lot of new freshmen on our staff so we both had to adjust our teaching styles to help them learn all there was to know about yearbook! Alex and I had to be the ones in charge of the class so this instantly taught us responsibility and communication skills. We had to assign everyone different tasks and oversee that everything got done.  Throughout the year, yearbook taught me how to lead a team and meet deadlines. At the end of the year, my biggest accomplishment was completing the yearbook. Alex and I had completed 200 pages that represented our whole senior year and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without each other. My yearbook advisor recently messaged me and Alex and told us that our yearbook was selected by our publisher to be in the Walsworth Gallery of Excellence. This just showed me that all of my hard work will eventually pay off in the long run.
