ESLTECH Takeaways

Throughout this course there has been numerous takeaways. It was extremely difficult to narrow everything I have learned to 3 takeaways. Without further ado, here is my  list of the top 3 takeaways from ESLTECH.

1.Organization

I strongly believe organization is one of the key ingredients to online success. Being able to organize your homework, papers, and projects is a difficult task. However, this class has taught me that the more familiar you get with organization online, the easier it will be. I am a perfect example of this lesson. Initially I was not very familiar with organization online, by putting myself out of my comfort zone and with the help of some learning technologies. I strongly believe I am able to efficiently organize my notes, homework, and papers in an online format. Check on my Learning technologies page for more specific apps, and websites that helped me organize efficiently online. ( https://u.osu.edu/fisher.1707/learning-skills/ ‎)

2. Goal Setting

Goal setting is extremely important to academic success. This class drastically changed the way I view goal setting. I learned how to create a goal by using the SMART goal nemonic. The S stands for Specific. You want your goal to be very specific so you can easily manage it. The M stands for measurable. Make sure your goal is able to be tracked. The A stands for attainable. You want your goal to be a challenge, but not something that is impossible. The R stands for realistic. Is the goal reasonable, relevant, and realistic. Lastly the T stands for time-bound. You want to make sure your goal is able to be tracked by time. If you put these all together, your product will be smart goal. Smart goals help you stay focused, and after all there is no better feeling than completing a goal.

3. One Size doesn’t fit all

This is perhaps the biggest takeaway from ESLTECH. What works for me in terms of organization might not work for someone else, and that is okay. As we learned about learning styles and learning techniques, I saw that there was a bunch of different ways to be successful. We are all unique in our own way and need to figure out how we learn efficiently. For some it might be in a quiet library studying and highlighting textbooks. For others it might be at a coffee shop with some friends and an open discussion. The most important thing is you need to find out what works best for you. 2 plus 6 equals 8. 4 plus 4 also equals 8. It is crucial that we accept our differences in learning, because the power of education lies in diversity.
