Year in Review (2nd Year)

I do not even know how to begin to describe this year. It has been an amazing year but also one of the most stressful years of my life. There has been so much going on in the world during my second year such as the Black Lives Movement, COVID-19 pandemic, Stop Asian Hate Movement, and so much more. Although these events were not even a possibility in my future plans coming into college, I am glad I was able to experience it. I was able to fight for something I was highly passionate about. I was also able to learn new life skills in how to approach certain situations.

Academically I can say I have found my love for Physical Therapy through the classes I have taken. Although majority of my classes were online I was able to really teach myself to understand the material through my own research for it was difficult to meet with professors in person and have that face to face interaction.

Socially I was able to make new friends through employment on campus and also participating in clubs and programs that I am highly interested in. I met new members of the 3D hip hop dance team, personal trainers through the RPAC, and employees of the Facility Operations at the RPAC. I have also been able to find friends through the pre-PT/OT club which has helped me immensely reach my goals.

Year in Review (1st Year)

Semester in Review (1st Semester)

Coming in to my first semester of college I was definitely nervous because of how big the the campus is, but also excited because of all of the opportunities that were coming my way. Coming from a home only 15 minutes away from campus but living in a dorm is a blessing that I discovered after a weeks since classes were in session. I am able to surround and live with people who have similar interest and classes as me because of the Biological Sciences Scholars program. We are able to help each other learn and understand the material that is being taught within our similar classes. My first semester consisted of 15 credit hours from Chemistry, Biology, Spanish, and survey classes. It was surely a huge adjustment from being used to high school classes and being thrown to much more intense and rigorous college courses. Although it was hard at times I remembered to take time to myself and have moments to clear my head to get back on track. I have learned to be more responsible for my own learning and seeking help when I need it instead of trying to solve all my problems by myself. Starting as a Biology major and not knowing that many other options I was able to learn more about other career paths within resources on campus. This lead me to change my major to Health Science and adding a dance minor. This decision took a lot of thinking and input from advisors and my close family and friends and I believe it was the right choice. I can not wait what next semester has in store for me.

Scholars Event Reflection

Rose Backs came to share her story of becoming a Physician Assistant with some biological sciences scholars along with health science scholars. She started by talking about herself and highlighting the struggles it took for her to get where she is today. Being an aspiring female physician assistant while she was in college was not easy. She had to work hard to prove herself and show that she has what it takes to be a physician assistant. She also mentioned that becoming a physician assistant was not always her plan and that the job kinda randomly came to her and she fell in love with it. Her story gave us another possible interest for our future occupations. We can look at her as an inspiration and her story to see that hard work pays off and we do not always know our purpose right away.
