About Me

I am a biology major with interests in veterinary medicine and biomedical engineering. I graduated from a small town in Missouri but I’m originally from Guam. My mom is in the Air Force so I’ve moved every couple years. I love animals, hence my veterinary interest.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

To expand my global awareness, I plan on joining cultural organizations and going on trips abroad. Being a part of the Ohio State University’s diverse student body has exposed me to many cultures and beliefs unseen by small town life. I would like to study abroad for a semester in Australia or England and/or go on a research/service trip. A service trip would submerse me in the native culture while I serve their community. I would learn much more from their culture than I could from a textbook. Studying abroad would embed a different cultural experience into my everyday routine. These experiences along with participation in cultural organizations will help me further appreciate the vast differences in culture while still learning more about my career field.

To learn more about the research process,  I hope to get involved with current research related to my major here at OSU. This hands on experience will teach me about the importance of research and asking questions. If possible, I also want to do a research trip abroad with an OSU staff member. This would expose me to research not available here in the U.S. I would also like to eventually visit the some of the archives to learn more about my career field. These experiences would all contribute greatly to the original inquiry part of my G.O.A.L.S.

To pursuit academic enrichment, I am going to continue taking rigorous courses, including honors versions, to push my educational boundaries. These high level classes will teach me more advanced concepts that will be helpful in future jobs. I also plan on remaining in Honors to push myself to continue taking a heavier course load, even if it means heavier studying.

To work on leadership skills, I am going to try to gain leadership positions in clubs and organizations such as Buckeyes for Canines. I also want to get involved in a mentor program for younger students to help tutor or just be there for kids. These positions will not only look great on a resume, but also push my leadership development.

For service engagement, I am currently volunteering at a local animal shelter to help take care of the animals and get them out of the kennels. As I mentioned before, I would like to spend some time mentoring younger kids and tutoring for service hours. There is also a possibility of taking a service trip to another country and serving another community. These opportunities will help me feel a sense of fulfillment and help with the service engagement portion of my G.O.A.L.S.
