Do.

About an hour and a half drive away from Campus, on a windy Friday afternoon three friends of mine and I went to Mad River Mountain, where I went snowboarding for the first time. It was cold and windy, but the snow was awesome, and I picked it up I think pretty quickly (Although I did more than my fair share of falling.) I had a blast though, and even managed to make it down the first real slope of the Mountain by the end of the night.

Go.

In a little hole in the wall shop on 5th Avenue, there is an advertisement for an arcade. At first a little hesitant, a group of friends and I went to Gotcha Gachapon a small but lively arcade. It was really cool to see the variety of arcade machines and other games they had available. There was also a little shop in the front of the shop, but none of us could find anything that really interested us.

Eat.

My father was born in Cuba, and as so he learned many of the styles of cooking while he was growing up. Over a weekend, my whole family mobilized to recreate this home style Cuban cooking, which gave us Empanadas, Tostones, and a pork shoulder with black beans and rice. It was a wonderful experience to get an idea of what a big meal might have been like for my father.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Career

Over the course of my first semester I have learned a lot of things. My academic classes have pushed the boundaries of what my knowledge was before, especially in chemistry. I have learned so much more in the time I have spent interacting with people of such varied backgrounds all with different experiences and perspectives on the issues faced by college students and by all people. I have a long ways to go, but the path is starting to become clearer.

I am currently in the Biomedical Science Major, and have been for the entire semester. I like it so far, and the emphasis on moving onto some sort of schooling after undergraduate appeals to me. I have two different secondary paths depending on where I am in my undergraduate studies if I am unable to continue in Biomedical Science I will either move into a psychology major, or a biology major. I would prefer the psychology major as my secondary option, but depending on the classes I have taken, some (or most) of them may overlap with the requirements for the biology undergraduate degree. These courses however, no matter which one I go with are all a significant amount of work. It will cause a lot of stress, but I have a few different things that keep me happy and healthy, as well as many people to help me a long my way.

My advisors, family, and the friends I have made both among the students and staff of campus are all amazing assets without whom I would not be nearly as successful as I am now. I hope to continue my upward trend, learning more things every semester and continuing to connect with new people so that I can make my time at Ohio State some of the best years of my life.

Eat. Go. Do.

For my Eat Go Do project I plan on eating at the Taste of Belgium restaurant in the north market, which is also somewhere I have never been before. For the do portion of my project, I have already completed it, in going to Mad River mountain for the first time and trying to snowboard.

About Me

My name is Andrew Fernandez. I have lived in Columbus Ohio all my life, and am now attending the Ohio State with my two triplet brothers. In my free time, I like to write, play volleyball, run, read and just relax. At school, I am in the Biomedical Science program, and my goal is to eventually become a fully certified medical doctor, either specializing in Pediatrics, or Psychiatry.
