Columbus To-Do List

For this semester I have chosen the Clintonville list to experience the surrounding area of Columbus. I am most looking forward to the Glen Echo Ravine. I love the outdoors, which is why I’m in this specific scholars program, and will take every opportunity to experience something new. This park in particular is a lot like the parks from my hometown. There is little traffic or noise, and lots of steep ledges that lead either a river or creek. I visited parks much like Glen Echo all throughout my summer at home and it will be nice to have a similar experience while away. I hope to gain an appreciation for the city of Columbus and its surrounding area since I spend the majority of my time on campus and don’t have a great idea of what Columbus actually has to offer.

So far, I have visited Lucky’s Market in Clintonville. From the outside it looked like any other typical grocery store, but I was pleasantly surprised by how unique it was on the inside. The store was full of healthy foods, a wide assortment of self serve fruits, veggies, and nuts. There was also interesting dispensers for beans, candy, trail mix and other dry foods, much like the dispensers you might find in a pet store to buy items by the pound. Another interesting food station they had was honey and maple syrup dispensers. Along with the cold foods, they had a hot food section for items that could be eaten right away. This market seemed like a mix between Sam’s Club and Giant Eagle. It had items you could buy in bulk, but the store was also quaint enough that it wouldn’t be hard to find exactly what you’re looking for. I would definitely like to go back to this store and spend more time looking at all the interesting products, there were many things being sold that you wouldn’t typically find in a generic grocery store like Walmart. I would recommend shopping here to anyone who owns a kitchen and had the means of cooking with appliances other than a microwave. Personally, there were many things I wouldn’t be able to buy due to the lack of a kitchen, but thanks to the hot foods section and the availability of foods you can eat raw, like the fruits and vegetables, there are quite a few products for everyone.
