Dear Friends:
I recently read a quote from Ohio State’s national champion wrestler that really struck me: “People do not come to Ohio State to be ordinary.”
What an incredibly true statement. It actually came to mind for me multiple times yesterday, as I looked out across the room while delivering my investiture speech. I am still delving into the first year of my presidency at Ohio State, but each and every day I meet members of the broad university community who aim to excel, rather than simply achieve. Seeing so many of those special individuals come together for my investiture ceremony was a humbling experience.
My deep gratitude goes to everyone who contributed to the investiture and created such a meaningful memory for Brenda, our family and me. I greatly appreciate the countless Buckeyes who have marked the beginning of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
It is a great privilege to serve as this university’s 15th president. Ohio State is a catalyst in expanding what we believe to be possible, improving lives and stimulating new ideas. I am very proud of this institution and our people, and I am excited to work with you as we move forward. Thank you for your support of this extraordinary university.
Sincerely, Michael V. Drake, MD President
Watch this during a workout or a nice drive. It’s a must read and I recently used this in my junior honors class. I think it’s helpful for students to understand the feedback process, especially when working on a thesis or dissertation. Please enjoy and buy the book. Keep it in your gym bag or briefcase. I have read this several times and always pick up something new. Enjoy!!
For my advisees & students, please check out this link and hear more about why & how to self-schedule. My suggestion is to open the doc and skip slide to slide to hear the recording. Its about 5 minutes and will save all of us a lot of time and will help you get in to see me when you need help, advising, or a little career 411. Thanks in advance for your participation.

I had a chance to participate in the #cdcchat today via twitter. @CDCgov received over 5,000 tweets per hour, so Ebola is definitely a high priority issue and a serious public health concern. I thought it would be most fitting to post some excellent sites for students and healthcare professionals interested in getting informed about risks, prevention, and evidence-based interventions. Please also pay attention to the proper standards for PPE equipment. Its applicable for all infection control scenarios!
Best,
-Michelle
