Watch this during a workout or a nice drive. It’s a must read and I recently used this in my junior honors class. I think it’s helpful for students to understand the feedback process, especially when working on a thesis or dissertation. Please enjoy and buy the book. Keep it in your gym bag or briefcase. I have read this several times and always pick up something new. Enjoy!!

I had a chance to participate in the #cdcchat today via twitter. @CDCgov received over 5,000 tweets per hour, so Ebola is definitely a high priority issue and a serious public health concern. I thought it would be most fitting to post some excellent sites for students and healthcare professionals interested in getting informed about risks, prevention, and evidence-based interventions. Please also pay attention to the proper standards for PPE equipment. Its applicable for all infection control scenarios!

Best,

-Michelle

Dear Dr. Drew, Thank You!!

barbara drew

This week I am highlighting the work from one of the best in the field- Dr. Barbara Drew. I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Drew in 2013. She is the David Mortara Distinguished Professor in Physiological Nursing Research and Clinical Professor of Medicine, Cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco. I consider her work a great example of how pure perseverance can lead to sustained improvements in healthcare quality and policy initiatives. Her research is recognized both nationally and internationally as hospitals and healthcare providers work to manage the issues related to alarm fatigue. I’m personally honored to know her and I hope you take a moment to listen to her NINR Nursing Research Director’s Lecture. To Dr. Drew- thanks for the inspiration!! Fierce Conversations

download
I was recently assigned reading by The Ohio State University, Project CEOS. By background, Project CEOS is a unique program geared to help women entering academia with a goal of promoting leadership skills and networking at the university. I encourage all my friends and colleagues to pick-up a copy of Fierce Conversations by Susan Scott. It’s brilliant and provides readers with insight into the processes involved when holding important conversations. We are all bound to have these conversations at home and the workplace. Instead of adopting avoidance behaviors, I encourage everyone to embrace the moment, listen, and learn from these experiences.
So, here’s my take-away from the book:
1- Everyone has a different perspective (multiple realities). Listen and REALLY make an effort to understand.
2- The conversation is the relationship.
3- Learn to pick-up on various conversation strategies and know how to deal with them.
4- Enjoy the moment!
