Football season is upon us! Stop by and say hello spot #166, Buckeye lot#2 on Saturday, September 12th for OSU vs Hawaii game. 1st game of the season.
A gentle reminder for students working on honors projects or my studies:
1-follow advisor rules about data (where to store, protections, etc.).
2-Never store data on thumb drives, Google drives, any kind of drive that is not associated with the study. Use Buckeye Box for data without PHI. If PHI involved, must follow rules for protections and privacy. HIPAA breaches still occur and we need to be sure we follow all guidelines.
3-Read new ONC report about data security standards (effective 4/15).
The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) TBI/CRI conference is held every March in San Francisco and is essentially “ground zero” for precision medicine research. Please check scholarship section on my site for information on abstract submissions and registration. Here are a few take home points direct from the conference:
-Precision Medicine: anticipate unique funding opportunities in NIH Data Science per Dr. Philip Bourne.
-Consider debate surrounding introduction of new data models, especially involving Patient Powered Research Networks (PPRNs) and Clinical Data Research Networks (CDRNs) to facilitate data exchange.
-Data quality is a major concern! Check recent pub by Dr. Kahn and Colleagues.
-Check out abstract presented by our team at OSUMC-Wexner Medical Center, Quality & Safety division (on page 355).
-Attn: Advisees, Nursing 3890, & NURSEADVN 4520 Informatics students! Let’s talk if you have an interest in submitting your work for the conference next year!
In honor of Star Trek; it’s all about data!!!
Hear from Dr. Francis Collins about the new precision medicine initiative direct from NEJM website. His perspective was also published in NEJM and it’s also a great read!
Expect big movement with privacy standards, academic & industry collaboration, improvements in data management, data analytics (learning healthcare systems), devices, mHealth, & cost reduction strategies!
Exciting news delivered via Mp3 in about 10 minutes. Enjoy!
Let’s get our exercise “on” and talk career, nursing, cvnursing, and feel better! All are invited to attend. Open to grad and undergrad levels too! Hot tub/sauna is optional- but it’s something I like to do before I work-out from about 0730-0800.
You will find me around cv equipment at basement level (same level as women’s locker room)
Drop-in and feel free to take off whenever. Check out app or Google calendar for details!
Our very own Dr. Mary Beth Happ was recently interviewed by OSU for her work involving communication aids for patients on ventilators. We are so thrilled to support her as she disseminiates her work to improve outcomes for patients in the ICU!

QI vs Research A very helpful editorial in Worldviews regarding the difference between quality improvement projects and research, and should it go through IRB. A perfect read for my honors seminar students!
