About Me

004

Hi, my name is Sarah Felix and I am currently a freshman at The Ohio State University! I attended private schools in Toledo, Ohio before continuing my education in Columbus. Throughout high school, I participated in things like student council, athletics, and mission work through my church group. However, my interests and extracurricular activities do not end there and I plan to expand on them throughout my undergraduate experience. I am currently studying Chemistry, and I plan to tkae that eventually to pursue a medical career such as a physician’s assistant or Optometrist.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

To further expand upon my Global Awareness throughout my four years here at OSU, I plan to take classes that will teach me about what goes on outside of my own little world and show me different perspectives on life. I want to step outside my comfort zone to see life through other people’s eyes. To do this, I plan to participate in a study abroad trip to a place that I am not familiar with. Hopefully, through this experience, I will be able to have a small perspective on how other people live. Also, I plan to participate in service around the community along with service outside the Columbus area through mission trips. These experiences will not only show me how some people live day to day, but also open my eyes to how blessed I am to have the opportunities I do. This leads into the GOAL of Service Engagement. I plan to continue to develop on this facet that I already have a strong foundation in by continuing to serve others. I plan to continue my participation in service student organizations and participate in mission trips through the Newman Center. On top of this, I also have recently applied to be a part of the Semester of Service program through Honors and Scholars which focuses on a social justice issue and doing service in that area. In participating in this service, I hope to also expand on the Leadership Development GOAL. To further develop my leadership skills, I plan to stay involved in service, apply to be a Leadership Ambassador, find ways to lead through my academics, and also stay involved in the student organizations I am currently in to eventually move up to a position of leadership. I also hope to eventually find an internship related to the career I want to pursue. I hope that in doing these, I will develop my leadership skills well enough to eventually be able to use them in a workplace setting for my future career. Leadership will be very important in the medical field and I realize that in doing as much as  I can now, I will only prepare myself more for my future. I plan to meet the GOALS set by Academic Enrichment by continuing to challenge myself with the coursework I take (and plan to take). In doing this, I will not shy away from classes that seem tough or a lot of work. I will also take honors classes that will challenge me and give me an opportunity to learn in a different setting than the traditional classroom. I chose the major I did because I knew it would prepare me the most for my graduate school aspirations and give me a strong foundation in the medical field. The courses I plan to take will definitely be a large time commitment, but, I think in taking these courses I will only enrich my passion for what I want to do. Finally, I plan to develop upon the GOAL of Original Inquiry by participating in undergraduate research sometime in the next two years. I hope to do research that I am interested in- something in the medical field that will relate to what I want to do with my future. I hope that, in doing this, I will develop a passion for a subject that I did not even know existed prior to my research. I think it would be really cool to be able to talk to people about a subject you have spent so much time on finding things out for yourself. I hope that through the academic plan I have laid out for myself along with my major, extracurricular activities, etc., I will develop upon the GOALS laid out by the Honors and Scholars program so I can leave the university not only with four years of knowledge but also with a well-rounded personality that will make me a strong competitor in my future career.
