Welcome! My name is Joey Fekete, and I am currently a freshmen attending The Ohio State University. I was born and raised in Moreland Hills, Ohio, a suburb east of Cleveland, and I am a 2018 graduate of Orange High School. In the classroom, I have consistently enjoyed math and science courses, which has led me to pursuing a major in mechanical engineering. Additionally, I have an interest in obtaining a minor in professional writing due to my love for writing and the importance of having strong compositional skills as an engineer. Aside from these specific academic interests, I decided to join the Politics, Society, and Law Scholars program since I have always found enjoyement in staying informed as a citizen in public policy and specific political issues affecting our society today. In addition to this, I am a part of College Republicans of OSU, and I plan on using this club to continue to stay updated on current political situations. Outside of the classroom, I played baseball and football from an early age and continued to do so through my time in high school, and I have carried this love for sports to Ohio State during my free time, as well as focusing on my personal fitness.
For me, mechanical engineering appears to be the right major because of my passion for opening up my mind to new inventions and ideas. After completing an unpaid internship with the Manager of Mechanical Engineering at Osborn Engineering in the Cleveland headquarters location, I began to understand the nuances to the field, and I gained exposure to a specific industry that mechanical engineers work in – HVAC system design and repair. Also, I am in Engineers for Community Service, which gives me the opportunity to combine the love I gained for volunteering through NHS in high school with my interest in applying engineering principles to real world issues.
