Function:
The reflectance sensors are used to keep track of the distance traveled by the AEV by counting the number of “marks” on the wheels that pass by the sensors. This function can be very helpful when determining how far the vehicle needs to travel before stopping or changing direction rather than solely relying on time. The sensors are very important in completing the MCR, as the AEV needs to travel specific distances to transport people from place to place throughout the city of Columbus.
