Trains have had a large impact on the lives of people across the world. They have been a source of transportation for millions of people, as well as produce, livestock, and a large array of other cargo. The purpose of the train lab is to investigate a real-world problem involving the programming of trains, lights, and gates. Students will become more familiar with MATLAB programming software, arduino, project management, and publishing an online project notebook. This project requires students to know basic MATLAB coding techniques and how to work together as a team to meet a project deadline.
Over the course of the semester, students have learned how to use MATLAB for various programming techniques. The majority of these techniques are used in the train lab. This is beneficial to students because it is a real-world problem solving scenario. It also helps students understand how to apply everything that they have learned throughout the semester.
