Identify the intended audience for your game

People of all ages can play both of our games; however, the memory game is more suited to people of all ages, while the click adventure game would most likely be more enjoyed by people that are younger/teenagers.

 

Conduct interview #1 with a potential user PRIOR to development

  1. What are some games you have played recently? Recently she has played Blockudoku and Slither.io which are both downloadable and online games.
  2. What are some games you might enjoy playing on MATLAB? She would enjoy a word search type of game or word hunt game. She would also enjoy an adventure game (like Mario Kart).
  3. In your opinion what is the optimal length a game should take to play? She thinks a game should only take a few minutes to play and maximum 5 minutes to complete, so more short attention span games. 
  4. What aspects of a game make it enjoyable to you to play? She thinks surprises and unexpected things are enjoyable. She also enjoys challenges so that winning is more enjoyable. 

Conduct interview #2 with a user after beta testing (must be different person than #1)

  1. What are some games you have played recently? Recently he has played Mario Kart and Mario Party. He has also done the globle and wordle.
  2. What are some games you might enjoy playing on MATLAB? He would enjoy another “web-based word search” sort of game, for another different topic. As globle is for the world and wordle is for a word of the day. He also said he would enjoy another competitive game like Mario Kart or Mario Party, which would fall under the category adventure.
  3. In your opinion what is the optimal length a game should take to play? He believes games like wordle and globle should only take upwards of 5 minutes, so a short amount of time. However, games like Mario Kart or Mario Party can be longer as they are more competitive and done with other people. Except each round should take no longer than 5-7 minutes.
  4. What aspects of a game make it enjoyable to you to play? He likes a competition between himself and his friends. He also likes a challenge whether it be physically trying to win or mentally trying to beat the game and figure the answer out.

Game 1: Memory – Interview 2 (last 2 questions)

  1. When playing this game, which aspects did you enjoy? He liked the colors of the cards and the vibrancy, as it made it more appealing. He liked how the game was function and looked, enjoyed the way that it would be played.
  2. When playing this game, what changes would you recommend? He would recommend making it more smooth, as it is still in the beginning stages of being developed. He recommended making it more challenging for the player by adding a timer.

Game 2: Adventure – Interview 2 (last 2 questions)

  1. When playing this game, which aspects did you enjoy? He liked the unexpected things coming up during the game. He also liked the character made and the background. He also liked that the game could be done with multiple people, to create a challenge and make it more enjoyable.
  2. When playing this game, what changes would you recommend? They recommended making it more smooth, as it is still in the beginning stages of being developed. He suggested making it more competitive by showing a leaderboard to the player, to make it more fun.
