Beef, and the Fair!

With the Fair less than two weeks away, make your plans now to attend, and participate, and enjoy!

First, as always, the Fairfield County Cattleman’s Association “Steak” Trailer will be in it’s usual location – northwest of the track and across from the beef barn – serving the best beef sandwiches on the grounds. This year’s menu again features two great old-time favorites . . . the Cattleman’s ribeye steak sandwich, and the 6 oz. cheeseburger! Perhaps best of all, the menu features locally grown beef, harvested and processed right here at Bay Packing, and served by the folks who are involved in raising it. If you and your family would enjoy serving a shift in the trailer, there are only a few shifts remaining available. Simply check in with local Cattlemen’s Association President Ray Breagel (740-503-3120) and he’ll get you signed up. The majority of the proceeds from the Steak Trailer go to support local youth through the Jr. Fair Market Beef Sale, college scholarships and other beef related activites.

This year the Cattlemen are proud to place this bench at the Fairgrounds in memory of Patty DeBruin.

On Monday, be sure you visit the AGmazing Building on the north side of the grounds over the noon hour and enjoy the Lancaster Culinary Arts class with their Plate Your Steak Celebrity cook-off. Featured will be lots of ribeye steak samples and the opportunity to visit with the young people about how to properly prepare your steak. Many thanks to the Ohio Beef Council for participating by providing funding, in part, for this activity.

If you enjoy a good Dairy Beef Feeder Calf show, that kicks off Tuesday’s full day of beef show activities beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the round dairy barn. Also on Tuesday the 8th, the Junior Beef Show will begin at 10 a.m. with Senior Showmanship in the Feeder Creek Show Arena north of the track. Showmanship will be followed by the breeding beef show.

PeeWee Showmanship, held during lunch break in the FeederCreek Show Arena, is always a highlight on Tuesday!

Back by popular demand, 20+ little cattlemen and women will participate in PeeWee Showmanship over the lunch break on Tuesday. If you’d enjoy a preview of what’s coming in future years, this exhibition by our up and coming very young cattle producers will entertain you as well.

Following PeeWee Showmanship and after the lunch break, the beef feeder calves will be in the ring followed by the market beef show. In addition to the Grand and Reserve Champion Market Beef animals, your Champion Bred, Born and Raised right here in Fairfield County market animals will also be selected.

On Thursday morning the open beef show begins at 10 a.m. in the Feeder Creek Arena. Featured again this year will be the Best of Fairfield County Bred, Born, Raised & Registered Beef Cattle class. After you’ve enjoyed the open beef cattle show, be sure to hang around for Junior Fair Livestock Sales that kickoff with the market steers and heifers at 5:00 p.m. on the 10th in the Feeder Creek Arena.

To conclude the beef related activities for the week, the 33rd annual open class “Mt Pleasant Show Down” feeder calf show will get underway at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Entries are accepted on show day and all the rest of the details can be found linked here.
