Enjoy LOTS of Beef Related Activities at This Year’s Fair

With the Fair only a few days away this is a great opportunity to do a brief preview of all the beef related activities fair goers can enjoy throughout the week. While not necessarily an ‘activity’ for some, the very first thing to mention is that the Fairfield County Cattleman’s Association “Steak” Trailer will be in it’s usual location, northwest of the track and across from the beef fccapic015barn, serving all their traditional beef products. That includes ribeye steak sandwiches, burgers (with mushrooms, bacon, and other great toppings available too), all beef hotdogs, and the now famous beef sundae!

If you enjoy beefccapic012f cattle shows, mark your calendar for a new time and day . . . the Junior Beef Show is still in the Feeder Creek Show Arena north of the track, but is now on Tuesday (October 11) beginning with Senior Showmanship at 10 a.m. If you enjoy the Dairy Beef Feeder Calf show, a new time allows you to stop by the round dairy barn first and catch it beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the 11th.

This year the PeeWee Beef Showmanship – for those very young cattlemen & ladies who are not yet old enough for a 4-H livestock project – will be held during the lunch break of the Jr Beef Show in the Feeder Creek Arena on Tuesday. In the past, few have seen this exhibition by our up and coming very young cattle producers. You won’t want to miss this! Pre-entry is not required and all the details are linked here.

On Thursday morning the open beef show begins at 10 a.m. in the Feeder Creek Arena. Featured again this year will be the Best of Fairfield County Bred, Born, Raised & Registered Beef Cattle class. The open beef cattle show will wrap up in plenty of time to allow you to get down the hill to the Fairfield County Cattlemen’s Chili Cookoff.0829161452a

No one among last year’s standing room only crowd that attended the first ever Championship of the County Chili Cookoff with Beef has forgotten it. The Chili Cookoff returns on Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. with 34 entries this year. To accommodate the audience, the judging will be held this year in the stage area of the AGmazing Agri-Center (also known as the Ed Sands/Farm Bureau Building) located west of the Junior Beef Barn.agmazing-agricenter-final-copy

After you’ve sampled all the award winner chili, it will then be almost time for the Junior Fair Livestock Sales that kickoff with the market steers and heifers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Feeder Creek Arena.

To conclude the beef related activities for the week, the 30th annual open class “Mt Pleasant Show Down” feeder calf show will get underway at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Entries are accepted on show day and all the rest of the details can be found linked here.

See you next week at the Fair!
