G.O.A.L.S.

As a student at Ohio State, I have multiple opportunities and countless chances to achieve success as a person. For myself to achieve global awareness, I plan to continue to involve myself in cultural organizations. Being an Asian American, a lot of my values are different than many others on campus. Right now, I have involved myself in Chinese American Student Association, Korean Student Association and a couple of other Asian orientated clubs. I continue to involve myself in these clubs and try to get leadership roles in these clubs as I go through four years at Ohio State. I also have considered going to school in China for a summer between my sophomore and junior year. Since I was born in China and came to America at a very young age, I want to go back to my roots and study the culture in the country that I was born in. I want to learn more about my ancestors and more about the language and really integrate Chinese into my life. I have looked at opportunities to study abroad and there is an opportunity at the number one university in China, one of the top universities in the world that allows students that were born in China to come back and study for a summer.. It will allow me to immerse into the culture since I will be in the country and also learn values and connect with my family.

To achieve Original Inquiry, I plan to use the countless resources at Ohio State to connect with scholars and professors in economic research labs. I have always been very interested in research and I have always wanted to use my skills in a lab. I want to be able to study under someone and have them teach me skills that I cannot acquire by myself. I want to understand how research develops at this school and have the opportunity to pursue my own creative ideas and come up with research to perform here.

To achieve Academic Enrichment, I will continue to take mostly Honor level courses. Right now, basically all my courses are honors courses and I will continue that throughout my four years as these honors courses will challenge me more and make me work harder. Right now, I am an Economics major and plan to take a minor in Accounting. I have also applied to the Fisher Business School and hope to get in to continue my economics major. I chose economics because as a high school student, I was very interested in how our economy grew and why we make the economic choices that we make. I also took AP Econ and since I did well in that class and thoroughly enjoyed the material, I decided to see if I could make a career out of it. For my GE courses, I have selected Psychology courses and many other courses that deal with Social Work and Sociology. As a high school’s student, I volunteered countless hours with most of them being at a homeless shelter with young children. I really enjoy understanding how children develop and I do want to do something with behavioral economics. I want to connect with real people and work with real people in the future and have face to face interaction. My GE courses will also be honor level courses and hopefully I will be able to manage both my major and my minor.

For Leadership Development, I will continue to join clubs that I am interested in as well as strive for leadership positions. Right now, I am involved in Pen Pals Club, Chinese Student Association, Korean Student Association, Homeless Crosswalk, Social Work, Club Tennis and We Hope. I hope to get some leadership positions in some of these clubs. When I was in high school, I was heavily involved in many clubs at my school and I want to continue to use those leadership skills to help others in these clubs and also help myself.

Personally, Service Engagement will be a very big part of my life. I want to use my service-learning skills to volunteer and join volunteer clubs. Volunteering is a huge part of my life and I truly enjoy helping others as well as helping myself learn more about the community. I want to help out in elementary schools around the area as I love working with children and I hope to keep expanding my skills.

About Me

Hey, I’m Susie. I’m from Hudson, OH, which is a small city near Akron and Cleveland. I play tennis and I also have played multiple instruments over the years. I love thrifting and doing puzzles and I’m always looking to do new things. Fun fact about me: I have moved nine times in my life.
