4-Step Process for Effective Goal Setting

From “Thriving in the Community College & Beyond” by Cuseo, Thompson, McLaughlin and Moono
  1. Gaining Self Awareness
    • Interests, abilities, talents, tendencies, values
  2. Gaining Awareness of Your Options
    • Choices available to you
  3. Gaining Awareness of the Options That Best Fit You
    • Goals that align with your interests, abilities, values, and needs
  4. Gaining Awareness of the Process
    • Specific steps you need to take to achieve your chosen goals

Having motivation is imperative if you wish to reach your goals. You need to make a strong personal commitment if you wish to attain a goal. No matter how clear and well organized the plan or timeline, a goal will never be achieved without a fierce promise to yourself to work toward it.

The 3 D’s of Motivation
