All Ohio 4-H Teens are invited to attend Tar Hollow Teen Camp which will take place July 5-6, 2020. Teens who have finished 9th through 12th grades by camp dates an register. Cost is $50.00 per camper. If you are a Fairfield County 4-H Teen, you may register through the Fairfield County Extension Office by June 1st and can take advantage of a $25 discount thanks to the Bertha Wilson Camp Scholarship Program. Additional details will be coming soon to register – registration opens May 1st.
Ohio 4-H Science Saturdays are back in 2020! Join us on January 11, 2020 for Can You Dig it? Our friends from OSU’s Orton Geological Museum will be here will fossils and gemstones, you create a volcano and dig into paleontology. It all happens at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Find the details and register at go.osu.edu/4HSciSat.

The sign ups for summer judging opened Friday afternoon, June 14th. By participating in this judging, you may be selected to represent Fairfield County at the Ohio State Fair. If you need to know what projects are being judged what days at the state fair, they are available at this link.
To participate in judging you’ll need to schedule an appointment using the following instructions (Registration will close on July 3rd):
Summer judging will be held the week of July 8-11th. Please see your member handbook pages 9 & 10 for the specific projects being judged each day. The sign up is now ready for you to use! Registration will close on July 3rd!
You will register for judging through 4-H online. Go to https://oh.4honline.com to log into your account using the same email and password you used to register for 4-H this year. If you don’t know which email you used, contact your club advisor or the extension office (740-652-7260).
Once you are logged into your account, you should be on the page with ‘Announcements and Newsletters’ as well as an arrow that says ‘go to family’. Directly above the “Announcements and Newsletters” you will find the My Meetings section in small blue font. Select My Meetings. If you are not on this page, please select the house symbol on the top right of your profile to get to the page.
This will show your available meetings. There should be the 4 days of judging listed. Choose the correct project area and go to the far right to the blue ‘Sign Up‘.
Use the drop down box to select the correct family member and then the topic (which we have as project number). Once you have selected the project number, the times will populate. Use the drop down box to select the time you would like for judging. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday judging times are in 15 minute increments. Thursday Clothing judging is in 20 minute increments. There are projects being judged by more that one judge, so please check the second (or third) judge as well to see if they have a time available that fits your schedule better.

2019 Ross Hocking Extension Camp Association Staff Application due February 1st, 2019. Staff positions available for Camp Manager, Assistant Camp Manager, Canteen Director/Activity Assistant, Recreation Director, Waterfront Director/Canteen Helper, Lifeguards/Canteen Helpers, Craft Director/Canteen Helper, Naturalist/Canteen Helper.
All positions are subject to changes and modifications after interviews. All positions will be responsible for helping with other camp duties as directed by the Camp Manager/Camp Director and may include basic health checks and cleaning duties.
The 2019 State 4-H Leadership Camp Staff Applications are now available!! Interested individuals can view a letter with more information at: http://www.ohio4h.org/camp/leadership-camp titled “2019 Potential Leadership Camp Counselor/Staff Information and Application”. A link to the application is included in the letter.

Here are some highlights about the opportunity:
Ducks Unlimited (DU) is now accepting applications for the DU National Scholarship Program offering graduating high school seniors who are DU members the opportunity to advance their education.
DU will award 61, one-time scholarships to eligible applicants at the following levels:
– 50 Varsity Scholarships at $500 each
– 10 Conservation Scholarships at $1,000 each
– 1 National Scholarship of $10,000
The online application is now open and will close on March 1, 2019. Applicants will need to provide their high school transcript, DU member/volunteer history, a resume including a list of any service or academic awards received and a letter of recommendation highlighting your involvement with DU and commitment to conservation. In addition, applicants will be required to write a 500-word essay describing how your outdoor experiences have contributed to your understanding of the importance of wetlands. All applications will be reviewed by DU’s National Scholarship Selection Committee and recipients will be chosen based on the merits of those submissions.
The list of scholarship recipients will be sent to all applicants in April 2019 with awarded checks released to the student’s college or university. Recipients will be recognized in Ducks Unlimited magazine, and the national scholarship winner will be announced at the DU National Convention.

We need to make sure our sponsors receive thanks and appreciation for supporting Fairfield County’s youth. This would include applying for the Bertha Wilson Scholarship, receiving awards at Summerfest, as well as receiving awards at the Fairfield County Junior Fair.
Please make sure if you are receiving awards (or have received awards already this year), to write a thank you note to your sponsor for these awards. Several people took lots of time making sure there was an address label for your particular sponsor on the back of rosettes/ribbons and attached to trophies.
Please note that we often lose sponsors because they do not receive a note of appreciation and thanks from our youth members receiving the awards that they have sponsored. If a member is not sure of their sponsor for an award received at Summerfest or the Fair, please contact the Extension Office and we will help you get the information you need.
We also strongly encourage youth to share information about their project, award(s) received, and perhaps a picture! Sponsors really enjoy reading this information.
