Teen Opportunity: Summer Service and Social with Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council, June 28th

Calling all teen 4-H members! Join us for a day of service and socializing in Columbus with your fellow older 4-H members on June 28th! We’ll be helping out at Ronald McDonald House of Charities in the morning, then head to Zoombezi Bay in the afternoon. Register by June 20th at go.osu.edu/TLCServiceSocial. Cost is only $10 which covers all activities and lunch, thanks to the Ohio 4-H Foundation!

What: A day of service to the community and socializing with fellow Ohio 4-H teen members!

  • Service: Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbus (cleaning and helping prepare rooms for new guests, making snack and toiletry packs for guests)
  • Social: Zoombezi Bay/Columbus Zoo

Who: Any 13–18-year-old 4-H members (as of January 1, 2024)

When: Friday, June 28th, 8:45am-4:30pm; RSVP by June 20th at go.osu.edu/TLCServiceSocial.

Where: Meet at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center at 8:45am (2201 Fred Taylor Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43210). We will caravan to the service and social locations and return to the 4-H Center by 4:30pm.

Cost: $10 (plus additional money for souvenirs/snacks at the Zoo). This price includes picnic lunch, entry to the waterpark and zoo, and service supplies. Sponsored by the Ohio 4-H Foundation. Payment must be made by June 20 at www.go.osu.edu/TLC10.

Fairfield County 4-H Achievement Awards

4-H members who completed the Ohio 4-H Achievement or Junior Achievement Forms were recognized on April 11th at the Fairfield County 4-H Achievement Awards Program. Scholarship winners were also announced and recognized. A sincere thank you to Fairfield Federal for their continued sponsorship of this awards program. A big thank you to the Fairfield County Commissioners, Senator Tim Shaffer, and Representative Kevin Miller for providing certificates to our members. And a special thank you Commissioner Fix, Commissioner Levacy, Commissioner Fix, Senator Shaffer, and Representative Miller for attending this event!

Youth Opportunity: 4-H Demonstration Contest – Signup by July 1st

Sign-up NOW through Monday, July 1st to participate in the Fairfield County 4-H Demonstration Contest by calling the Extension Office at 740-653-5419.

When: Wednesday, July 17th, 2024

Time: 10:00 a.m.

Who: Any 4-H member (project age)

What: A contest designed to demonstrate your ability to teach how to do something. There are Junior and Senior Divisions! For more information contact the Extension Office

Where: Ag Center, 831 College Avenue, Lancaster Why: To share your talents or skills with others and improve your teaching abilities.

Teen Opportunity: 4-H Event Youth Assistant (4HEYA) Applications due May 15th

Looking for a state level leadership opportunity this summer? Apply to be a 4-H Event Youth Assistant (4HEYA)! 4HEYA’s help staff summer 4-H events such as state project judging, contents, awards ceremonies, and more! The application is due May 15, 2024! Teen Opportunity: Ohio 4-H Event Youth Assistant (volunteer at the Ohio State Fair!)

4-H Event Youth Assistant (4HEYA) applications are now available! This is an opportunity for teens 13-18 as of January 1 to get a short-term experience at the state level. Applications are available at go.osu.edu/4HEYAapp and are due by May 15, 2024. They also require 2 reference forms (one from a 4-H / Extension professional).

Here is a basic overview of the opportunity:

  • What: 4-H Event Youth Assistant (4HEYA)
  • Who: Individuals age 13-18 (as of January 1 of the year of application) and have at least 1 year prior 4-H experience.
  • Timeframe: Apply by May 15, selection, training, service to OSF, and evaluation. Complete responsibilities by August 31, 2024.
  • Requirements (in addition to application/selection process):
    • Training – Must attend one of the options for training (July 10 or July 18)
      • Please note: individuals MUST attend one of the training options. This is not negotiable. If you know you are unable to attend a training option before applying, it is best to wait another year before applying to serve in this capacity.
    • Events – Must work a minimum of 3 events at the Ohio State Fair; may work more if desired
  • Program Fee: $25/person (paid at go.osu.edu/4HEYA25);
  • Teens Receive:
    • 4HEYA Polo & Nametag
    • State Fair admission, parking ticket, and meal ticket(s)
    • Optional State Fair housing in the Rhodes Center (if desired)
    • Experience of working events at the Ohio State Fair
    • Opportunity to enhance leadership skills and be involved in the State 4-H program
  • What about the Teen Leadership Council? YES, these members may apply for 4HEYA AND TLC this year, if desired. TLC applications will be available in June and will be due the Friday following the Ohio State fair. Their term is September 1, 2024-August 31, 2025. Current TLC members are not eligible to apply for 4HEYA, as they are already fulfilling obligations at the Ohio State Fair.

Teen Opportunity: Ohio 4-H Leadership Development Retreat

OHIO 4-H LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT RETREAT (hosted by the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council)

When: April 12-13, 2024 (Friday early evening through Saturday afternoon – Dinner, Breakfast, and Lunch provided)

Where: 4-H Camp Palmer

Who: 4-H youth ages 13-18 interested in strengthening existing leadership skills

*Great opportunity for Camp Counselor training hours, JFB members, club officers, etc. – ~5 hours of counselor training available

Cost: $40 (covers overnight stay at camp plus 3 meals and a 4-H SWAG item)

*Sponsored by the Sauder 4-H Career Development Fund!

What: Teens will participate in interactive and engaging activities related to leadership skills, teambuilding strategies, conflict management, and other life, career, and college readiness skills.

Teen & Advisor Opportunity: Ohio 4-H Conference – March 9, 2024 (registration due 2/9/2024)

The 2024 Ohio 4-H Conference will bring together 4-H volunteers and teens (age 13 and older) from across Ohio. You can participate in a variety of educational sessions that offer something for everyone! Join us as we learn from one another to make the best better for Ohio 4-H programs. Sessions will start at 9:00 am on March 9, 2024 at the Columbus Convention Center. Sessions will be finished by 4:00 p.m.

Registration forms and the $40 payment (checks made to 4-H Advisory Committee, please) are due to our office by 4 pm on February 9th. There will be scholarships for youth that completed an Ohio Achievement Form and the first 8 adults that register for the conference.

Sessions and workshops coded ‘Teens’ is geared towards teens.  Sessions and workshops coded as ‘Adults’ are for adult volunteers.  Sessions for both groups are coded as ‘Both.’  Please keep in mind when registering for the Conference that a person can’t attend a workshop and session during the same time period.

Junior Achievement Award Applications (ages 9-13) due 1/12/2024

Fairfield County Jr. Achievement Form (pdf)  (Paper copy is due to the Extension Office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024).

For 4-H members ages 8-13 as of January 1, 2024 to complete.  This form provides a start towards completing the Ohio Achievement Record form.

There are three levels of awards:  White Clover for members in the first and second year, Green Clover for members in their third and fourth years, and Gold Clover for members in the fifth and sixth year of Traditional 4-H.
