National 4-H Youth in Action Awards: 2021 Applications are OPEN!

It’s a new year, and we’re introducing a new application season for the Youth in Action program! We’ve heard from Extension professionals and students that spring is a better time for youth to apply for scholarships, so we’ve shifted our application season to better support 4-H’ers and professionals alike! From January 29 – April 27, 2020 youth can share their stories of developing passion, finding purpose and inspiring others by applying for the 4-H Youth in Action Awards for a chance to earn a $5,000 scholarship and a trip to Washington, DC! Junior Leader 1st Meeting – January 13th!

Fairfield County youth ages 13-18 are welcome to join Junior Leaders –  Join us Monday, January 13th at 6:00p.m. at the Extension Office as we kick off our year!

What is Junior Leadership Club?

A group of older 4-H youth from across the county. This club is designed for older youth BY older youth. Some of the activities we do throughout the county are: social outings, community service, fundraising, leadership opportunities, and assisting at county events.

When do they meet?

The Junior Leaders typically meet monthly on Mondays at 6 PM and ending at 7:30 PM.

Where are the meetings at?

The OSU Extension Office in Lancaster (831 College Ave.) also known as the Ag Center.

Who can join?

Anyone who is 13-18 years old and a current 4-H member of Fairfield County.

When can you join?

Any time during the year. All you have to do is show up to a meeting.

What do we do at the meetings?

Jr. Leaders discuss and plan what is going to happen each year in Fairfield County 4-H. Members of Junior Leaders work on different committees to come up with the plan of work each year.

2020 Camp Counselor Application Now Available!

For youth interested in serving as a Fairfield County 4-H Camp Counselor in 2020, Applications can be found here. Forms are due by 4:00pm on Friday, January 10th. Competition for this opportunity is open to all 4-H members ages 14-18 as of January 1, 2020. All resident camps will be held at Tar Hollow State Park: Intermediate Camp will be June 15-18, 2020 and Junior Camp will be June 30-July 3, 2020. Our one day Cloverbud Camp will be held at Alley Park on June 6, 2020. Counselors must be 14 by January 1st to be considered for Junior and/or Intermediate Camp. Counselors must be 14 by June 1st to be considered for Cloverbud Camp. New & Returning Counselors must complete the application annually.  Please review the application packet and instructions for more information. Clean out your campers! Canned Food Drive at the County Fair!

The Fairfield County Junior Fair Board will be hosting a canned food and non-perishable food drive at the Fairfield County Junior Fair October 6-12, 2019! Clean out your campers and drop items off at the 4-H Display Barn and/or Junior Fair Office during the week of the fair! The Fairfield County Junior Fair Board will be partnering with the Lancaster Food Pantry to disperse these donations after the fair. Thank you in advance!


Volunteers needed with setup in the Art Hall on Sunday, October 6th!

Attention teens and adults – help is needed by the Senior Fair for hanging items in the arts and crafts area in the Art Hall. This would be a great opportunity to include this on your Ohio 4-H Achievement Forms or in your 4-H Project Books as community service for our fair! Help is needed on Sunday, October 6th from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Art Hall. Please contact Sean Malone at smalone4996@hotmail.com if you can help!

Junior Leaders – Next meeting: September 9, 2019

The Junior Leaders are a countywide group that provides older youth opportunities to explore leadership skills beyond the local club level. For 4-H youth ages 13 and up – feel free to join at any time during the year! They are always open to new members joining this group! Upcoming meetings include September 9th and October 28th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Ag Center. They will be receiving an email with details. Please contact the office to sign up to be on the Junior Leader email list.

 

Fairfield County 4-H Families Host Japanese Youth through the International 4-H Exchange Program

We are excited and grateful to have FOUR (4) Fairfield County 4-H Families currently hosting Japanese youth in their homes through the 4-H International Program from July 24th through August 18, 2019. By their efforts of time, energy, and hospitality, they are helping to offer these youth an opportunity to benefit, grow, learn, and blend as families this summer! Additionally, families hosting and the youth participating in this program benefit from in-depth cross cultural educational experiences!
