Calling All Ohio 4-H’ers! The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) invites Ohio 4-H members to explore the state’s rich natural wonders through hands-on activities that fulfill the requirements of select project books. 4-H members will disperse throughout Alum Creek State Park to participate in workshops led by expert ODNR staff and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers volunteers.

Ohio 4-H is partnering with Tractor Supply Company (TSC) for the twice-annual Paper Clover fundraiser from April 26 to May 5. You can show your support by purchasing a paper clover at your local TSC store or adding a donation at checkout for all online orders made at tractorsupply.com.

Ohio State Fair Scholarships: Due May 1st (not just for livestock exhibitors!)
In an effort to recognize the quality youth of Ohio, and to help those interested in furthering their education, the Ohio Expositions Commission has established a Scholarship Program for Ohio State Fair participants.
The purpose of these scholarships is to assist high school juniors and seniors and graduates who are continuing their education at an accredited institution in an under graduate course of study in any field.
The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to not issue a scholarship if no applicant fulfills the requirements.
Rules
The applicant must be a high school junior or senior or a graduate continuing their education at an accredited institution in an under graduate course of study. They must reside in the State of Ohio and must have been both eligible to be a participant in the Junior Fair (not older than 19 years of age as of January 1, 2023) and must have served as an active participant in both the Ohio State Fair Junior Division and their local county fair.
All questions on the application form must be answered to be considered for an award. High school and/or college transcript must be attached, along with copies of ACT and/or SAT scores. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
Applications will be judged on the following basis:
- 20% Scholastic Standing
- 20% Citizenship and Leadership
- 25% Ohio State Fair Participation
- 20% County Fair Participation
- 15% Essay
Applicants may be required to be interviewed at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.
Previous winners are eligible to compete, as long as they meet the above requirements.
Scholarship winners will be notified by July 26. All scholarships will be awarded during the Sale of Champions at the Ohio State Fair on Sunday, Aug. 6.
The Hall of Fame Scholarship will be awarded during the Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame Luncheon on Thursday, August 3.

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Update
The 2022-2023 HPAI outbreak is ongoing and there are still detections of disease in neighboring states. We are heading towards peak migratory bird migration in the next month, so it is crucial that we practice our very best biosecurity in order to maximize our chances of a successful 4H poultry livestock season in 2023.

Fairfield County 4-H Achievement Awards
4-H members who completed the Ohio 4-H Achievement or Junior Achievement Forms were recognized on April 4th at the Fairfield County 4-H Achievement Awards Program. Scholarship winners were also announced and recognized. A sincere thank you to Fairfield Federal for their continued sponsorship of this awards program. A big thank you to the Fairfield County Commissioners, Senator Tim Shaffer, and Representative Kevin Miller for providing certificates to our members. And a special thank you Commissioner Fix, Commissioner Levacy, Senator Shaffer, and Representative Miller for attending this event!

Goat MQP (carcass) Contest – Deadline is May 1st
It’s time to submit those 2023 – Goat MQP Forms (due May 1st).
Members must be enrolled in the Market Goat Project in 4-HONline by April 15th to be eligible for the Goat MQP Program.
Entries for the 2023 Fairfield County Jr. Fair Goat, Barrow, and Lamb MQP programs are now being accepted. Again this year all MQP entries will be accepted on-line.
Please note that some of the important MQP dates have changed as follows:
- Goats for the MQP contest must be owned by June 3, 2023 and will be tagged and weighed-in on that date at the Fairgrounds. After 85 days on feed the Goat MQP contest will conclude at the Fairgrounds on Sunday, August 27, 2023.
- Lambs for the MQP contest must be owned by July 8, 2023 and will be tagged and weighed at the Fairgrounds on that date. After 64 days on feed the MQP lambs will be brought back to the Fairgrounds for the conclusion of the contest. Note this is 14 days less time on feed than last year.
- Barrows for MQP must be owned by July 8, 2023 and will be tagged and weighed this year at the Fairgrounds on that date. After 78 days on feed the barrows will return to the Fairgrounds for the contest conclusion.
