Junior Fair Beef Reminders and CHANGES for Breeding Heifers and Beef Feeders

Attention 4-H and FFA Beef Exhibitors – we would like to remind you of a few upcoming deadlines 2021 Fairfield County Fair.

  • The possession deadline for Beef Feeders is August 15th. NEW FOR 2021: Nose prints will not be submitted as they have been in the past. Beginning this year, a DNA hair sample must be collected, placed in a sealed plastic baggie inside a provided DNA sample kit, and dropped off to the Senior Fair Office within 5 days of the required possession date. Exhibitors will need to submit DNA hair samples with exhibitor name, phone number, email address, 4-H Club/FFA Chapter, and breed.   • The possession deadline for Beef Breeding projects is July 1, 2021.
  • For Beef Breeding exhibitors planning to exhibit commercial/crossbred/non-registered breeding heifers: NEW FOR 2021: Nose prints will not be submitted as they have been in the past. Beginning this year, a DNA hair sample must be collected, placed in a sealed plastic baggie, and dropped off at the Senior Fair Office by July 30th, 2021.   • Also new this year for commercial/crossbred/non-registered breeding heifers, each animal must be tattooed, have a visual numbered ear tag, or have an EID tag and the number and method of identification must be reported at the time DNA is submitted.
  • For Beef Breeding entries, a reminder that Breed classes will need to have at least two entries to be considered a class. All other registered non-class entries will be placed in the AOB division of breeds. NEW FOR 2021: Registered animals must not only declare their breed at entry, but ALSO provide proper breed registration paperwork when submitting fair entries in August.
