Bottle Cap Challenge: Battle of the 4-H Clubs!!

The Junior Leaders are starting a new community service for 2021 and need your help collecting plastic caps to turn into benches. Work within your club to collect clean plastic bottle caps and lids. Store them during our “off” time in bags – inside a box as they can get heavy. The club who collects the most caps by weight will receive a personalized plaque for a bench. If your club would like to fundraise to purchase a bench for your club, contact Aubry (Fowler.443@osu.edu) for more details about this optional opportunity. Countywide Weigh In Information will be coming out soon – Save the date for May 8th or 18th to drop off your caps!

Spring 4-H Paper Clover Promotion begins 4/28/21 at Tractor Supply Co.!

Tractor Supply proudly began their partnership with 4-H in 2010 and they have since helped raise over $14 million through our Paper Clover fundraisers. The success of these campaigns has impacted over 69,000 students by providing them with hands-on learning experiences through projects in STEM, agriculture, healthy living, and civic engagement.

100% of funds raised through our two Paper Clover fundraisers directly benefit 4-H and the kids and teens they work with – 80% of donations directly support 4-H youth in Fairfield County and 10% goes to Ohio 4-H, and the remaining 10% supports national 4-H programming. We are so fortunate to have TSC stores in Pickerington, Carroll, and Lancaster.

The 2021 Spring Paper Clover Promotion will begin April 28, 2021 and run through May 9, 2021. Stop by a Fairfield County 4-H store and support 4-H!

Fairfield County 4-H Camp is in PERSON!!

We’re excited to announce Fairfield County 4-H will be going to camp in person!!

Fairfield County 4-H’ers will camp locally, via Day Camps, at Alley Park in 2021. This applies to Cloverbud, Junior and Intermediate Camps. This decision was made based on communication with Fairfield County 4-H families, Advisors, camp counselors, and adult camp staff with camping preference, safety, and logistics in mind with regards to the current situation.

We recognize that other counties are moving forward with planning overnight camps, and we want our families to know that each county is making its own decision on how to proceed this year given the circumstances and approval from OSU. The decision for day camps was not made lightly and many conversations with stakeholders and clientele took place which led to this decision. We are excited to host 4-H members at our day camps this year as there was a lot of interest from our recent survey of 4-H families. We are looking forward to overnight camping in 2022.

The Camp Information sheet has been updated for your reference.

Camp Dates:

  • Cloverbud Day Camp (Ages 5-8, Cloverbud Members) – June 5
  • Intermediate Camp (Ages 11-14) – June 15-17
  • Junior Camp (Ages 8-10) – June 29-July 1

Registration:

  • Registration will go live on May 3, 2021, and can be found here: go.osu.edu/2021FCCampApp
  • Bertha Wilson Trust will provide a 50% campership again this year if registered by June 1st
    • Members will only have to pay $40 for Intermediate or Junior, and $20 for Cloverbud

Health & Safety Information:

  • All campers, counselors, and staff will need to wear a mask at all times unless they are actively eating, boating, or participating in archery.
  • Campers will remain with their group and remain physically distanced from other groups. Groups will consist of 8 campers and 2 counselors
  • Health checks will be conducted for all campers, counselors, and staff each day of camp

Horse Exhibitors – EquiSTEP due May 1st!!

Hello Fairfield County Horse Exhibitors,

Just a reminder that EquiSTEP (Equine Safety Training and Educational Program) is required this year in order to satisfy your helmet/horse safety requirement. Please make sure to complete the videos and quiz by May 1st. This is required for all 4-H and FFA members who want to show horses this year. READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE BECAUSE THERE ARE ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS TO COUNT IN FAIRFIELD COUNTY!

Currently EquiSTEP is housed on an OSU ScarletCanvas online course that is run by the state office. You can enroll in the online course here: https://cfaesosu.catalog.instructure.com/courses/equine-safety-training-and-education-program-09-mz2-e41. If you did EquiSTEP online last year, you will need to re-enroll in this online course because the platform has changed.

If you are using the online course, remember to do the following:

  • There is only ONE email with multiple families using it:
    • The family should sign up for the course
    • Select ‘Modules’ to see the 5 steps.
    • All horse exhibitors in the family, Watch the video(s) that corresponds with each step.

    • Complete the Certificate of Completion/Course Evaluation Survey. Both you and your county 4-H professional will be emailed a certificate that notes you have completed the EquiSTEP training.
      • This survey can be completed multiple times updating which family member is completing it
    • Make sure each member turns in their own hard copy (paper) Horse Member Packet to their Advisor. Advisors will submit all paper packets to the office by May 1st!

If you are having difficulty accessing the online course, we have found another way to complete the requirement. Below are direct links to all 4 videos.
