Ohio Ag Council Scholarships – Due 2/15/2021

OAC annually offers scholarships to assist students in pursuing a career in an agricultural-related field. Scholarships are available to high school seniors preparing to enter college or any undergraduate student currently enrolled in college. Applicants or their parent or legal guardian must be a resident of Ohio.

Scholarships are selected based on academic record, leadership qualities, community involvement and responses to application essay questions.  Scholarship recipients are also provided a one-year complimentary student membership in OAC.

Scholarship applications for the 2021-22 school year will be available in fall 2020. Completed applications must be returned to the Ohio Agricultural Council by February 15, 2021.

The Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation is pleased to administer scholarships on behalf of agricultural partners and families who wish to support future generations and help assure a well-qualified and professional agricultural workforce in Ohio while supporting farming communities. Ohio students from rural, suburban and urban communities and pursuing degrees connected in some way to agriculture are invited to apply for a set of scholarships supported by the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation. Collectively, these programs will award over $50,000 in 2021, each featuring awards from $500 to over $3000. In addition, some county Farm Bureaus have their own scholarship programs. Ohio Sheep Improvement Association Scholarships are administered by the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation and can be found by clicking this link. Application deadline is June 26, 2021.

Fairfield County Farm Bureau Scholarships – Due 3/1/2021

Fairfield County Farm Bureau is pleased to announce it will be awarding college scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year. The number of scholarships awarded will be based on the number of quality applications that are received.  The deadline for entry is March 1, 2021.

Winners will also receive a Young Active Farm Bureau membership.  Please mail the completed 2021 Fairfield County Scholarship Application form to Fairfield County Farm Bureau, 24633 US Route 23 S., Circleville, Ohio  43113.

Take the Leap Career Readiness Program – Ohio 4-H Teens ages 13-18 Opportunity

On behalf of the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council, we would like to introduce you to the 2021 Take the Leap Year Program. Thanks to the Ohio 4-H Foundation Board, Take the Leap Year is a teen-led, five-month free program available to Ohio 4-H Teens ages 13-18. Our goal is to help teens from Ohio gain leadership skills, career development skills, and learn how to establish and maintain goals. They will learn these skills through programming, journaling, and working with their peers.

We will be meeting virtually on the third Wednesday of each month February-May. There will be two meetings in June, with one on the second Wednesday of the month and on the fourth Wednesday. These workshops will be held in the evening. Each session will have different themes taught by teen leaders. Prior to beginning in February, registered participants will receive a package in the mail with supplies for the program.

Below are the following plans with the corresponding months:

  • February: This meeting will be an introduction to the program. Throughout the program, we are challenging teens to pick one word to apply to all aspects of their life. This word can help them reach their goals.
  • March: Working with teens to develop a 5-year plan to help them determine what they would like to accomplish in the near future.
  • April: Teens will learn professionalism skills that will benefit them in their later careers. They will learn about resume building, elevator pitches, business cards, and much more!
  • May: Participants will learn about state opportunities within the Ohio 4-H program.
  • June (2nd Wednesday): Q& A with 4-H alumni and the opportunity to learn about several career paths.
  • June (4th Wednesday): Closing Ceremony

Those interested in the Ohio 4-H Scholarships must complete follow directions below to submit your application (even if you are not planning to attend any branch of Ohio State University).

All students in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences are encouraged to fill out the College Scholarship Application for the 2021-22 academic year.

You will only need to fill out one application to be eligible for scholarships from the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, School of Environment and Natural Resources, and ATI/Wooster. The priority deadline for completing the application is February 15, 2021.

The simple on-line form requires you to write a short 300 word essay, list of present and previous work experience, involvement in extracurricular activities, provide details about involvement in groups. Students in the School of Environment and Natural Resources will only need to complete this application for 2021-22 as the supplemental questions are within this application. Applicants who have participated in 4-H regardless of University/College, Campus, or major are to complete this application and the additional supplemental questions when you check “Yes” on the involvement in 4-H. www.cfaes.osu.edu/scholarships

Nominees Sought for National Ag Day Student Leadership Program

Nominees Sought for National Ag Day Student Leadership Program – Virtual, March 2021

National 4-H Council is pleased to offer an agriculture leadership opportunity for 10 students to represent 4-H during the 2021 National Ag Day Student Leadership Program. The program prepares and engages young people to raise awareness of the importance of the agricultural industry and its impact on our nation’s society and economy. This annual program will be held virtually in March 2021.

The Agriculture Council of America (ACA) sponsors a total of 100 student representatives from across the country to participate in the program. The students—from FFA, AFA, 4-H and MANRRS—put a face on the future of agriculture and personally emphasize the importance of agriculture in our everyday lives with stakeholders.

Students will participate in a series of virtual sessions that will include special governmental guests, experts and advocates in the ag industry. Students must be willing and able to communicate with their Congressional Representatives and Senators. Tools to schedule their legislative visits and key message training will be provided. There is no cost associated with the 2021 virtual program.

  • Each Land Grant University (LGU) may nominate up to two delegates to represent 4-H.
  • All 4-H nominations must be approved by the LGU’s 4-H Administrator, i.e. State Program Leader or a representative thereof.
  • Nominations are due by Friday, January 15, 2021.
  • Participants will be selected through a competitive application process.
  • 4-H representatives should…
    • Be between the ages of 18-23 and enrolled in post high school education
    • Be 4-H alum or currently active in collegiate 4-H
    • Have a strong interest and/or career plan in the agricultural industry
    • Have the desire to learn about communication and leadership skills

Students must be able to participate in all of the following virtual sessions. Tentative agenda:

  • Tuesday, March 16, 2021 – Ag Day Kickoff, Student Training, evening, 90 minutes
  • Wednesday, March 17, 2021 – Ag Day Part 2, Student Training, evening, 90 minutes
  • Monday, March 22, 2021 – Ag Day Part 3, Student Training, evening, 90 minutes
  • Tuesday, March 23, 2021 – National Ag Day Virtual Congressional visits, all day
  • Tuesday, March 23, 2021 – Virtual Debrief and Celebration – 7:00 p.m. Eastern

To be considered as a 4-H representative for the 2021 National Ag Day Student Leadership Program, nominations must submit the following by Friday, January 15, 2021.

1. Nominee’s responses to the following questions via the online application.

  • Name, age, current school and contact information
  • Name, title, email of 4-H Administrator who approved nomination as one of two representing
    their institution.
  • What is your motivation to participate in this National Ag Day program?
  • What skills did you learn in 4-H that have helped you become a successful agvocate?
  • What are your future career aspirations?
  • Following this training, how do you plan to use what you learned to advocate for agriculture?
  • How did you learn about this opportunity?
