Scholarship Application – Ohio 4-H AND OSU College of Food, Ag, & Environmental Sciences (open, due 2/15/2021)

All students in the Ohio State – College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences are encouraged to fill out the College Scholarship Application for the 2021-22 academic year.

You will only need to fill out one application to be eligible for scholarships from the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, School of Environment and Natural Resources, and ATI/Wooster. The priority deadline for completing the application is February 15, 2021.

The simple on-line form requires you to write a short 300 word essay, list of present and previous work experience, involvement in extracurricular activities, provide details about involvement in groups. Students in the School of Environment and Natural Resources will only need to complete this application for 2021-22 as the supplemental questions are within this application.

Applicants who have participated in 4-H regardless of University/College, Campus, or major are to complete this application and the additional supplemental questions when you check “Yes” on the involvement in 4-H. www.cfaes.osu.edu/scholarships

State Achievement Form Workshop: Nov 14

On November 14, 2020, Teen Leadership Council will be hosting their second Achievement Form Workshop on Zoom from 5:30-7:30 p.m.!

This second workshop is specifically for those teens who have already started/previously completed their Achievement Record Form and would like feedback. Teens who RSVP will receive individualized coaching from individuals who are experienced and have had success in submitting their Achievement Record at the state level.

Fire Safety on the Farm

The Division of State Fire Marshal’s Fire Prevention Bureau has created a training session for FFA students, 4-H clubs, Young Farmer Groups and Agricultural Education classes.

The Fire Safety on the Farm course will introduce learners to the many causes of fires in an agricultural setting. Throughout the program, safety best practices are introduced in the area of fire, electrical, storage and equipment safety as well as proper function and use of portable fire extinguishers. This program is designed to be delivered to all ages of agricultural workers including children of home-based farms.

This 45 minute to 1 hour course is available virtually by contacting Division of State Fire Marshal Fire Safety Educator Dale Schulte at dale.schulte@com.ohio.gov or 614-425-4312.

National FFA Scholarship Program – Opens 11/1/2020

The National FFA Scholarship Program application opens Nov. 1. Whether students are planning on attending a specialized training program or seeking a four-year degree, the National FFA Scholarship Program has opportunities for all. Scholarships support FFA high school seniors and collegiate members as well as non-FFA students. Just one application is required for multiple scholarship opportunities totaling close to $2 million dollars. Everything students need to successfully complete the application can be found on the scholarship website. This year, we are also including how-to videos to assist students in completing the application and advisors on validating the student’s application. It is imperative that students, teachers “white list” emails that will come from the scholarship partner ISTS. Here is a document to walk you through how to ensure you receive the communication around the scholarship program. The scholarship application closes on January 14, 2021. 2020 Fairfield County Junior Fair Companion Animal Show Results

Fairfield County Junior Fair Exhibitors were invited to participate in interview judging for their Companion Animal Project during Fair Week. Here are the results of the 2020 Fairfield County Junior Fair Companion Animal Show. Members should have picked up their awards at the Junior Fair Office during fair week. Any awards remaining can be picked up at the Fairfield County Extension Office by Appt on Tuesday or Thursday (Call 740-653-5419 to schedule), or will be given to club advisors with their end of the year packets.

Officer Book Contest – Deadline is 10/31/2020

Are you a Treasurer or Secretary for your 4-H Club? Make sure to turn in your officer book to the Extension Office (831 College Ave, Suite D, Lancaster). Records should be completed through October 31st, 2020. Given the deadline falls on the weekend and our office is only open on limited days and times, please call 740-653-5419 to arrange a time for dropping off your book. Books must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5th.
