Quarantined In Space Wrap Up & Save the Dates

Thank you to the 103 campers who signed up for Virtual 4-H Camp! We hope you have had a great time being Quarantined in Space this summer. All campers should have received an email with final reminders as we wrap up camp. Make sure your Space Logs are submitted by end of the day on Friday, July 3rd!

We will be sending details out soon to campers about how to pick up your Prize Packs that include camp t-shirts, gifts from your counselors, and more! Thank you again for joining us on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. We could not have had a successful Virtual 4-H Camp without you. Ohio Youth Skillathons – Registration is OPEN!

As many of you know, the 2020 Ohio State Fair has been cancelled, including the 2020 Ohio State Fair Skillathons. To support the continued learning needs of youth livestock and companion animal exhibitors throughout Ohio, Ohio State University Extension and the Department of Animal Sciences are pleased to offer virtual Skillathons this year. Our 4-h Animal Sciences team will conduct online Ohio Youth Skillathons in 2020 with the chance to compete for the highest score. Unlike in-person State Skillathons, no cash awards will be involved. These Skillathons will encompass the same educational materials, by species, that would typically be evaluated at the Ohio State Fair, and give the opportunity to put your 4-H project knowledge to the test!

Don’t forget to register for the Ohio Youth Skillathons!

Dates/times, rules, and registration for Ohio Youth Skillathons are now online at: https://ohio4h.org/animalsciences/ohio-youth-skillathons

Ohio Youth Livestock Expo: Entries are open, due 7/10/2020

The Ohio Youth Livestock Expo is being hosted July 25-August 18 by a group of volunteers with shows for beef, sheep, swine, and boer goats. The Expo is perfect for junior exhibitors who are looking for a state-wide, competitive show for their livestock projects. For full details, schedule, eligibility, and entry information, go to www.theoyle.com. Entries are due by July 10, 2020.

Full entry information by species is listed on their website. Please note that exhibitors must have a confirmed project in that species enter at the county/state level in the organization in which they are a member (4-H or FFA). Entries are not finalized until the confirmation is received back from either the FFA Advisor or County 4-H Professional that the entry is enrolled in that project for that organization. Ineligible participants will be notified if the entry is not accepted, no refunds will be issued.

Quality Assurance must be completed. View entry information for details. We are still waiting to hear confirmation on the deadline in which Quality Assurance must be completed in order to participate in the OYLE.

Community Generosity = County 4-H Dues Paid for all 4-H Club Members!

The Fairfield County 4-H Endowment Board would like to thank all of our donors for your generous support of their effort to pay for County 4-H dues for the youth enrolled in the Fairfield County 4-H Program in 2020.  We have reached our goal and are well on our way to paying for the 2021 dues too.  The enthusiasm and support for this one-time “give back” to 4-H members was amazing.  We simply cannot say thank you enough for your generosity.

So, here is a little perspective of how those dues dollars have been used:

  • Several of you chose to invest in our long term goal of empowering youth for many years to come thru your contributions made to the Fairfield County Foundation 4-H Endowment Fund and the Fairfield County 4-H Ohio State University Fund. Thank you for helping to Leave a Legacy for future generations!!
  • There were 103 youth enrolled in a virtual 4-H Camp in June, you helped to purchase a few of the supplies for their virtual camp experience.
  • Your dollars helped to sponsor 4-H Family Guides for every one of the families enrolled in the Fairfield County 4-H Program.
  • In addition, monies for County Dues also provided flag sets to all new County 4-H Clubs, and judges for all the Summer Judging that will be happening in the middle of July.

If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact any one of the Endowment Board members.  Or, if you would like to make a donation, simply send a check to the Fairfield County 4-H Endowment at PO Box 564, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.

Again, the support for our one time giving initiative during COVID 19 Pandemic was outstanding!  We sincerely thank you for believing in the Fairfield County 4-H program and the 1,000 youth it serves.

100 Years Video Challenge

The Fairfield County Junior Leadership 4-H Club is challenging all 4-H members, families and clubs to create a short video sharing what 4-H means to them. 2020 is the 100th year anniversary of 4-H in Fairfield County. The Junior Leaders would love to get 100 videos to share this year at county events and on social media.

Video Guidelines:

  • Short videos are preferred – 1 minute max
  • Film videos horizontally if possible
  • Include your name (first only), club, and years in 4-H
  • Include your animals or still projects in the video if you can
  • Things to talk about:
    • What 4-H means to you?
    • How has 4-H helped you through the COVID-19 crisis?
    • What is your favorite thing to do in 4-H?
    • Do you have a favorite project?
    • Do you have a favorite camp memory?
    • Were your parents or grandparents in 4-H? If so, include them in your video if they live in your household, or properly social distanced if you visit them.
  • Wear a 4-H shirt if possible, otherwise choose neutral clothing or hats without other logos.
  • Make sure your video is 4-H friendly!
    • This means there is nothing in the background or being said that you would embarrass you in front of your family.

Unable to make a video? Take a photo with a sign to wish Fairfield County 4-H a Happy 100th Birthday, and we can use it in a video for promotional purposes!

Once you have completed your video, upload it to the member mailbox by Monday, July 6. The member mailbox can be found at go.osu.edu/memmailbox. This is a great opportunity to promote 4-H and can be used for project experiences or Junior/Ohio 4-H Achievement Forms!!

Keep an eye on the Ohio State – Fairfield County 4-H Facebook Page as we will share videos to help us celebrate 100 years! #Happy100YrsFairfield4H
