Attn Teens – Applications open for Ohio 4-H Health Heroes!

Fairfield County has had a great run with teens participating with the teen leadership group – Ohio 4-H Health Heroes! This year, Emma Preston, Lauren Preston, Cara Luallen, Hannah Henry, and Dalton Henry had the opportunity to participate!

Applications are now open for the 2019-2020 year. For more information, requirements to serve, and to apply, visit: ohio4h.org/healthheroes. Deadline is September 15, 2019.

Junior Fair Queen and Species Ambassador/Representative Application Reminder

The 2019 Junior Fair Queen and Species Ambassador/Representative Applications are now available on our website at http://go.osu.edu/19JFQueenSpeciesAmbassadorApps

The Junior Fair Queen letter and application were mailed to those young ladies who will be age 16 by the first day of the fair through those age 18.

Please see each of the species ambassador/representative applications for the specifics on their age ranges and requirements.

Canine ambassador forms were due to the Extension Office by 4 pm on Friday August 16th. Congratulations to Kate Crow for continuing on as the 2019 Canine Ambassador!

The Junior Fair Queen and remaining Ambassador/Representative Applications are due to our office by September 6th at 4 pm (except Equine Ambassador – due Sept 13th).

The Lamb and Wool Queen is handled by outside coordinator, and those are due to the coordinator by September 14th.  Please visit our website or the Fairfield County Fair website for additional details on the Lamb and Wool Queen contest.

All Teens invited! – Ohio 4-H Teen Mental Health Retreat

The Ohio 4-H Teen Mental Health Retreat is going to be October 12-13, 2019 at 4-H Camp Ohio.  There is a limit of 40 youth for this retreat.

If anyone has any questions, please contact Amanda Raines directly at raines.74@osu.edu.

To register, youth will go to http://go.osu.edu/mentalhealthretreat and complete the form. At the end, they are asked to print the response summary as well as the Ohio 4-H Health Form and mail them to the Hardin County Extension Office with the $40 registration fee.  Registration is due by September 30th, 2019.

Pygmy Goat Clinic is Sunday, August 25, 2019

Office Hours of the Fairfield County Agricultural Society/Senior Fair Board are as follows:

January – August 16 – (Monday – Friday) 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

August 19 – October 4 – (Monday – Friday) 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

October 5 – (Saturday) 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Fair Week – October 6-12 – Sunday  -8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Monday – Friday – 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

October 15 – November 2 – (Monday – Friday) 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

November 5 – December – (Monday – Friday) 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Premier Exhibitor Testing – Sunday, August 25th

This is a reminder that the 2nd of 3 Premier Exhibitor testing dates will be Sunday, August 25th at 1:00 pm at the Rickett’s Hall on the Fairfield County Fairgrounds.  Youth may only test on a species one time per year, but may test on multiple species the same day. Questions?  Please see your member handbook, or the junior fair rule book for your particular species.

Our final test date is Saturday, September 14th, at 9:00 am in the Dining Hall on the Fairfield County Fairgrounds.  Signs will be posted to help you find your way that day!

There will be no other times available to take the Premier Exhibitor tests other than those 3 scheduled at the beginning of the year (July 27, August 25, and September 14, 2019). 

Save The Date: Sept 21-22 Fall 4-H Flower Sale

Come support the Fairfield County 4-H by shopping at Lancaster Greenhouse and Nursery on September 21st and 22nd. Hours are 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

This is a fundraising event for the 4-H Advisory Committee. The 4-H Advisory Committee supports county 4-H programming for all youth members and adult volunteers including, but not limited to: awards and banquets, trips and scholarships, printing costs, special programming costs and more!

Supporters must present coupon at the time of purchase and 15% will go directly to the Fairfield County 4-H Program. Remember to bring a paper copy of the coupon to the Greenhouse with you, but do not distribute coupons at the greenhouse! Please share this event with family members and friends!
