The webpage includes:

  • A link to download the 2019 State 4-H Animal Sciences (Livestock, Companion, & Small Animals) Events calendar (the scarlet button).
  • A link to download the 2019 Ohio 4-H and FFA Animal Science Competitions document (the gray button). This document includes both 4-H and FFA events related to animal sciences across the state, many of which are open to youth participating in both organizations.
  • Links to species specific pages with additional events not included in the other calendars (e.g., dairy cattle, horse).

Ohio Beef Expo Livestock Judging Contest – March 15th, 2019

For those interested, there will be a Livestock Judging Contest at the Ohio Beef Expo on Friday, March 15th, 2019. Lunch is provided to contestants. Beef Quality Assurance will follow the contest awards and this will count toward Fairfield County’s 2019 Youth Quality Assurance requirement. Fairfield County 4-H and FFA Market Beef Weigh-In: Saturday, March 9th, 2019 (new date, new location!)

On Saturday, March 9, 2019 Junior Fair Market Beef weigh-in and tagging will be held at the new Fairfield Cattle Company facility located at 3443 Cincinnati-Zanesville Road, Lancaster. As in the past, processing cattle will begin at 8:30 a.m., but note the new date . . . March 9, 2019 the second Saturday in March! Find more detail here.

Fairfield County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship – due 2/10/2019

Fairfield County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship: High School seniors and current college undergraduates are invited to apply for the 2019 FCCA College $500 scholarship. Deadline to apply is February 10, 2019 and the award will be announced during the 31st annual FCCA Banquet on March 9, 2019. If clubs are looking to add advisors/volunteers for 2019, now is the time! The 4-H Volunteer Application is now available and can be found hereNew volunteer applications are due February 1st, 2019. Background checks should also be taken care of by February 1st or immediately following February 1st, 2019 for new volunteers.

Want to start a new 4-H Club in 2019? We need to know NOW!

If you are interested in starting a new club for 2019, now is the time to get started. Please call the Extension Office (740-652-7260) to discuss your plans as soon as possible! Clubs must be organized by an approved and registered Fairfield County 4-H volunteer. Ideally, we should have all new club requirements in place by March 1st so that you can stay on track to begin the 2019 club year!

Livestock Publications Council Scholarship – due 2/15/2019

The Livestock Publications Council (LPC) is accepting applications for the Forrest Bassford Student Award. The top winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship and a $500 travel scholarship to attend LPC’s annual convention and Ag Media Summit in Minneapolis, Minn., July 27-31, 2019.

Up to three $750 travel scholarships to attend the convention will be given in addition to the top award. Students participating in the convention will have the opportunity to interact with more than 500 livestock publication managerial, editorial, advertising, production and circulation personnel while attending workshops and seminars specifically related to this specialized publishing field.

Applicants must be a college junior or senior at the start of the 2019-20 college year with at least one semester before graduation. The application deadline is Feb. 15, 2019. More information and application here.
