Call for Writers! Looking for 4-H Stories From the Heart

The professional association for 4-H workers has a special project underway . . . that of collecting short stories about the impact 4-H involvement has had on individuals and families.

The group working on this project would be so excited if you would submit a story for consideration to be included in Volume II of 4-H Stories From The Heart.  Details about what we are looking for are listed below.  We hope to receive stories by Monday, November6 6th, 2017.

Please take a moment to read over the following description.  Let me know if you can help us out with this project.  Keep in mind:  IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE PERFECT.  THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF TIME FOR EDITING.

We want stories of 1,000 words or so that are inspiring, funny, “tear jerkers”, and more.  (1,000 words equal about two typed pages, single-spaced.  If someone is speaking, 1,000 words will fill about 10 minutes.)

  • We want heartfelt stories that document 4-H’s positive impact on your life or the life of someone close to you.
  • Stories written in first person are usually best.
  • Selected stories will be proofed for “readability”, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
  • Authors of selected stories will be asked to review and provide written permission to use the edited version of their story.

Ultimately, the goal is to create Volume II of 4-H Stories From The Heart.  The proceeds from the sale of this book will go to support the National 4-H Hall of Fame (est. 2002) which annually honors 4-H workers whose efforts have made an outstanding impact in the lives of young people.  There are honorees from each state in the Hall of Fame.

The book is not just about fundraising.  We also want to document the impact 4-H has had on thousands of young people, volunteers, staff and donors.  These “stories from the heart” do an excellent job of explaining why 4-H has been and continues to be the best youth development program in the world.

We are working to collect as many stories as possible by Monday, November 6th, 2017.  Please let me know if you would be interested in supporting this project.  I hope you’ll mark your calendar and plan to have a story to us by Monday, November 6th, 2017.
