Ohio 4-H Dog Expo – Registration Deadline EXTENDED to 5/3/2017

The (postmark) registration deadline for the Ohio 4-H Dog Expo has been extended to Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017. The Ohio 4-H Dog Expo will take place at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 13th, 2017.

What is Ohio 4-H Dog Expo? Dog Expo is an opportunity for 4-H members (AND their dogs) to learn skills to help them be more successful with their 4-H dog projects. Teamwork between the 4-H member and his/her dog is emphasized throughout the skills sessions. Dog Expo is open to all 4-H dog project members and their dogs, whether this is their first-year or they have been taking dogs for several years. Experienced 4-H dog volunteers and resource people will be present to help 4-H members work with their dogs. There will be a session for advisors to ask questions and learn how to better help 4-H’ers with their dog projects.

Where will Ohio 4-H Dog Expo be held? Dog Expo will be held at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds, Lancaster. There will be several buildings devoted to the different sessions. Just follow the signs! Find directions to the Fairfield County Fairgrounds at: www.fairfieldcountyfair.org

What is the cost? 4-H’ers can come for half a day or all day. It will cost each 4-H’er $10.00 to participate for half a day, and $20.00 to participate for a full day’s worth of sessions. You MUST pre-register. There are NO same-day registrations. We will NOT accept walk-ins. ONLY the 4-H member may bring his/her dog. No puppies please!! Advisors can attend for free, as well as parents and siblings. Advisors need not pre-register.

Ohio 4-H Health Heroes Challenge Clubs with the 4th “H”: Health!

The Ohio 4-H Health Heroes are promoting the 4th H for Health Challenge to clubs. This comes after they attended the National Youth Summit on Healthy Living in Washington D.C. where they received a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to promote healthy living.

The challenge supports healthy meetings by encouraging clubs to serve water, incorporate physical activity, offer a fruit/vegetable for a snack, and do an activity to enhance social & emotional health.

Please help us by encouraging 4-H clubs in Fairfield County to take the 4th H for Health Challenge. Club leaders will be receiving an email with information about the challenge the week of 4/24/2017.

4-H clubs that complete their tracking sheet and send it into the state 4-H Office will receive a certificate of achievement for their members. They will also be entered in a drawing to win prize kits to promote health at meetings.

Club leaders can find more info along with the leader’s guide and tracking sheet on our website: http://www.ohio4h.org/4thHChallenge

Ohio counties that have the highest percentage of clubs turning in their tracking sheet will be recognized at the Ohio 4-H Conference in 2018.

Most importantly, you can tell them how much fun 4-H is and what opportunities you have had through 4-H! For any questions please call the store or text Brenda Stepp at 740-503-4536. Store hours are Monday-Saturday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sundays 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Host Families needed July 23 to August 17, 2017

Dear Friends of the Ohio 4-H International Program:

SHARE YOUR WORLD!

Thank you for your support of our program. Would you be willing to forward this email to your friends and contacts? Or, if you’ve not already applied, are YOU interested in hosting this summer? We still need 38 families to host a Japanese youth and word-of-mouth is the best way to share this opportunity.

Bring a Japanese Youth into your own Living Room!

Ohio 4-H is looking for host families to enjoy an incredible international experience from July 23 to August 17, 2017. Membership in 4-H is not required. Hosting is educational and lots of fun! Your family will come together through a fun and challenging project, and engage in another culture … and your own child will gain a special friend across the world. Families only need live their “regular lives.” Special trips and activities are not required, and medical insurance and spending money are provided. Potential Ohio host families should have a child in their own home aged 10 – 15 who will serve as the main host sibling.

Applications are accepted until all youth are placed! – please contact us if interested regardless of when you receive this email.

If your child is going to camp, the Japanese child goes, too! (And the cost is covered.) If you’re going on vacation, the Japanese child goes, too! Exchange youth do not need their own rooms, but do need their own bed or mattress on the floor. If your child starts school before 8/17, we hope the Japanese youth might go along for a few hours a day – if not, they can be kept busy by the host parents, neighbors or relatives. Don’t worry about the back-to-school rush and shopping … this is something the exchange youth enjoy being a part of! The Japanese youth do not speak fluent English, but families (and especially youth) find creative ways to communicate when stumped, and utilize dictionaries and adult chaperones as necessary.
