An OSU Youth Poultry Workshop will be held on Saturday, April 22nd, 2017 at the OSU Columbus campus Animal Sciences Building. A link to the flyer is posted at www.poultry.osu.edu on the Calendar of Events page. The cost is $10.00 per person if postmarked by April 10th, 2017, and $20.00 per person same-day registration. Participants will learn how to evaluate and select birds for meat and eggs, how to quality grade meat carcasses and eggs, basic handling and showmanship techniques, as well as prepare for the Ohio State Fair youth poultry events – judging contest, skillathon, and avian bowl. There will NOT be Quality Assurance offered at this state event.
A Youth Poultry Clinic will be held on Saturday, March 25th, 2017, at OARDC in Wooster. Registration is $20.00 per person and must be postmarked by Friday, March 17th, 2017. There will be a statewide QA session offered at this clinic. This will meet the county QA requirement for the Fairfield County Junior Fair. The OSU Junior Swine Day is Saturday, March 25th, 2017. OSU Junior Swine Day is held in two locations on March 25th, 2017 – OSU Columbus and OSU ATI Wooster, with the same sessions offered at each location. Registration is due by March 19th, 2017 and is $10.00 per person. A flyer can be downloaded at www.go.osu.edu/livestock from the Calendar of Events page. Youth attending will participate and be certified in PQA Plus (Pork Quality Assurance) and this will meet the county QA requirement for the Fairfield County Junior Fair. The Ohio Beef Expo Judging Contest and Quality Assurance Training will be on FRIDAY, March 17th, 2017, at the Ohio Expo Center. Note – This is now held on Friday, NOT on Saturday as in the past. Registration for 4-H Camp Tech is open! Camp Tech is a three-day, overnight camp held at the Nationwide & Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center on the OSU campus in Columbus. Campers participate in a variety of hands-on STEM activities including, robotics, engineering design and coding. 4-H Camp Tech is for all youth entering grades 6, 7 and 8 in fall 2017. High school juniors and seniors are invited to apply for the STEM Biosciences Summer Camp, hosted by OSU’s OBIC Bioproducts Innovation Center June 19th-22nd, 2017. Participants will explore technology and career opportunities through activities and field trips. Engaging with Insects – Summer Day Camp is back! Young entomologists interested in learning about the little creatures that really rule the world are invited for a week of hands-on experiences with experts from OSU’s Triplehorn Insect Collection and the Department of Entomology. New for 2017 – All enrollments will be completed by parents and advisors through 4-H Online!
Parents and advisors of Fairfield County 4-H Clubs are invited to the Extension Office for training on using 4-H Online for 2017 enrollments. Training will be held on Tuesday March 21st from 2 pm to 7 pm. Please bring you laptop with you for training. This is an open house style training. Come anytime between 2 and 7 pm for assistance, and we will help you. Training tutorials will be provided on the 4-H Youth Development site once finalized.
