Making Healthy Choices in our Community

We finished up another series of SNAP-Ed classes with the Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities.   During the class we discussed how we can make healthy food choices on a budget and we learned how to make delicious meals and snacks!  Topics of the class were MyPlate, Dairy, Fruits & Vegetables, Protein, Grains and Food Shopping.

The recipes we made were all from Celebrate your Plate.  Celebrate your Plate is a free website that provides healthy recipes and kitchen tips.  We made a Gluten-Free Pasta Salad, Sunny Baked Eggs and Vegetables, Creamy Pumpkin Dip and Apples, Lettuce wrapped Apple Tuna Sandwiches and Nice Cream.  All the recipes were delicious and healthy!

While in the kitchen we also talked about kitchen safety, especially when using knives and cooking on the stove.  For a couple of the students, this was their first time using knives and cooking their own food!  It was great to see their excitement every week!
