Sam van Strien

Sam van Strien: thresholds

Knowlton School of Architecture: 275 West Woodruff Avenue, Columbus, OH 43210-1138
central space (near windows)

On view August 24 – September 1, 8am-8pm

The screen divides –
preventing sight and touch.

Threatened by an absence of permanence.
Secure and private.
Boundaries become defined.

We can neither enter nor experience.
Becoming image.
To be breached.

The taboo of touch,
the concrete surface, the rough surface.
Material aggression.

Our perspective changes.
We detach – an aerial imagination – technologies of mapping.
Distance.

Locate.
Traverse the pavement.
Never to get closer.

No narrative.
The abstraction is controlled.

A succession of views.
Fixed.
A conflict of moments,
placement and context; ejected.

Thresholds of touch and sight. Edges.

We can trespass.
