When it comes to recording videos, audio quality is just as important as video quality. Placing your microphone correctly is very important to make sure you look AND sound your best. Here are a couple quick tips on adjusting your lavaliere microphone.

1) Make Sure the Mic is Facing Up –  One of the most frequent issues I see with new users is that they place the mic upside down, which is picking up their waistline and not their voice.

2) The Mic Clip is Adjustable – There are five adjustable positions. Please realize that you can always adjust the microphone clip 180 degrees, to ensure the mic is facing your mouth correctly.

3) Appropriate Proximity  Rotate the clip accordingly and place the mic in the middle of your clothing. If you do not have that option, be sure to consider which direction you will be speaking. For instance, if you will be looking to your left to see the screen, then place the mic on the left side of your clothing.

As for the distance, an easy way to ensure the mic is close enough, but not too close, is to place your fist to your chin and place the mic directly below your fist.

4) Powering Up – Wireless mics have power switches. Flip the switch to power on the microphone. When mic gets power, it communicates with the receiver, and you will see the frequency channel numbers.

5) Hiding the Cable – Not only do you want to sound your best, but you should also look your best by hiding the microphone cable under your clothing. Now you’re ready for the cameras!
