CALM – Review of an app
I have been using an app on my iPhone for meditation and sleep.
Calm. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 the best – I would give it a 9.5. The only thing that keeps this from being perfect is the subscription price of $9.99/year.
They have added “sleep stories” which I turn on when I go to bed and my mind is whirling. The story quiets my mind and I drift into sleep.
There are some other actions that the app provides, but I have not used them as often. Meditate which supports learning a meditation practice;
and Breathe coaches intentional breathing with sound and visual cues.
Calm was launched in 2012 by a couple of young men interested in having a life with less chaos. They found a woman who could be their content expert and an app was born. It is available for IOS and Google/Android.
Do you have an app worth sharing?
No – but this one sounds very cool! Thanks for sharing.
On another note, last week at the AONE conference we heard a presentation on Mindfulness. A big ah ha for me was that an important way we can use mindfulness in specifically caring for our patients is to laser focus when we are with the patient – and then pull it back out to the multiple things that require our attention when we leave the room. This would be a great competency for our PMHCNSs to help us to perfect!
What a great practice! Will investigate ways that we can flex our “mindfulness muscles”!
