A humbling and wonderful experience (Guest Bloggers – Karla Richards & Brett Chafins)

When we care for the community we serve our patients and ourselves. Karla Richards (11 MMMT Infusion) and Brett Chafins (11 MMMT Infusion) discovered this past Sunday at PurpleStride. Providing support to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, PurpleStride is attended by pancreatic cancer survivors, their families, their friends and our James staff.

Here are some reflections from Karla and Brett:

“Attending and walking in the Purple Stride 5K was a humbling and wonderful experience. Seeing our current patients on the “Survivor Stage” was joyous. The patients were so excited to see their chemo nurses present and I wanted to relay to them I was here to  support them. They are fighting the cancer battle and  I am proud to be a part of this event. Talking to the patients before the walk was so nice. The smiling faces, the positivity, the purple wigs. Along the path were walkers, runners, strollers, wheelchairs, all to support pancreatic research and someone they loved. This is an events our unit hopes to participate in again next year with even more staff walking.”-

The patients we see at Morehouse were genuinely happy to see us there. The patients shared with us how great their experience is/has been in the infusion clinic. I truly think it encouraged our patients to see us there supporting them.
