Epic Systems is one of the largest providers of health information technology, used primarily by large U.S. hospitals and health systems to access, organize, store and share electronic medical records.
Epic MyChart Bedside is used at the university medical center to provide patients with personal and family health information at their fingertips with MyChart. They can message their doctors, attend e-visits, complete questionnaires, schedule appointments, and be more involved in managing their health.
Epic has an electronic signature feature that meets university requirements for a legally binding electronic signature when configured appropriately. The authenticity requirement for electronic signatures needs to be configured carefully to meet requirements.
In-Person Signing – Patients are identified and checked in by hospital staff upon entry into the hospital. Photos are taken and stored in the patients file in Epic. Patients are issued a wristband, a specific room, and an iPad. Researchers provide the consent to the patient and verify the photo stored in Epic at the time of signature.
