Choosing a Topic

The Beginning…

I have been in college for about five years now and have realized over time through other people that the more connections you may have then the better opportunities you may find. When I first entered college people began to stress how important your GPA was and that was what I focused on for the first couple years. I soon realized that it isn’t all about your GPA…some companies don’t even look at your GPA when they interview you! I should have been making all types of connections and relationships with people as soon as I began college. A lot of the time people hear about or find positions that they enjoy through simply knowing the right people. I wasn’t very good at making connections and figuring out how to utilize those connections but I feel like I have started getting much better at it now. I am definitely trying to find the right people to help me open doors to my future after college!!

Getting From College to Career

After reading reviews of the books that we could chose I quickly decided that Getting from College to Career by Lindsay Pollack was the perfect fit. I’ve been in a retail setting for over seven years and slowly made my way from a sales associate to management. I was an associate for four years due to being away in college and would go back on school breaks to resume my position. When I was ready, I made my way to management within three months and continue to hold an assistant manager position. I am on track to finishing college next spring and I had no idea what steps to take next to further my career! I knew that I needed to start reaching out to others and connecting with different types of people so that I may find some new opportunities. I needed to figure out how to put myself out there!
