Ergonomics Practices for Grocery Distribution Centers – What you can do to prevent musculoskeletal disorders in your facility

Musculoskeletal injuries continue to exist in many manual distribution center operations, including grocery distribution centers.  Incorporating ergonomics practices into the daily operations at a grocery distribution center has the potential to reduce the physical demands experienced by grocery distribution center personnel, especially those working as selectors.

Identifying Ergonomics Best Practices Currently Used in Grocery Distribution Centers

This site provides two evaluation tools that were developed based upon interviews conducted at 30 distribution centers regarding the ergonomics practices they employ.   The longer version of the checklist includes the “ergonomic rationale” for each of the listed practices and bench-marking data.   The shorter version omits the rational statements and the bench-marking data and may be better suited for use during meetings.
